Hello,

This maybe a very odd postings. But I am sure someone will know the answer?

I am after the presenter line-up of the London station from March 1996 and found out the following

Saturday

2.0am unknown
6.0am Mike Carson
10.0am unknown
2.0pm Martin Buchannon
7.0pm David Allen

Sunday

Midnight unknown
6.0am Mike Carson
10.0am Jonathan Izzard
2.0pm unknown
7.0pm David Allen
Midnight

Monday - Friday
Midnight/2.0am unknown ? Barney Burham
6.0am David Hamilton
10.0am Jonathan Izzard
2.0pm Tony Myatt
6.0pm Peter Marshall
10.0pm David Gilbee

Each night they seem to have played an hour of showtime music and an hour of classical music between 8.0pm and 10.0pm each night.

Does anyone know the line-up from this time and perhaps they could fill-in the gaps and make any corrections - please

Thanks,

Iain

They were all there much later when Emap got their hands on it.

The line-up's broadly right, late nights - like all the other slots - were four hours, so Dave Gillbee was on 10pm-2am weeknights.

Shame you don't hear Mike Carson on the radio anymore - think he got the push for Russell Pockett on weekend breakfast, again, when Emap bought Melody out.

I too really enjoyed listening to Melody Radio when I was working in London. My favourite period was 1990 to 1995. Such a unique station.

I remember Melody Showtime every evening at 20.00.

Anybody remember the presenter line up when it launched in 1990?

Wasn't the man who is now best known for his X Factor VoiceOver work Peter Dickson on air in the early days?

When they launched in 1990 believe Bill Rennells presented the breakfast slot.

The format of Melody should never have been allowed to change to what is today Magic, totally different format...

Yes, and before that on R1 and R2, and was also a C4 continuity announcer. I think he started at Radio City in 1974 ?

I never heard the station but it sounds very much like Frances Line's Radio 2 from reading what I have about it.

It was a little I suppose, but without any 'clutter'. For instance the presenters read the news on the hour, there was not opting into IRN audio. There were no jingles either.

Initially the station was billed as "radio without the speakers"and the announcers were not identified. It was great fun trying to ID them. Then Lord Hanson, the proprietor signed up David Jacobs to do Saturday breakfast, and he was name-checked

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I thought it was better to post it here as my question is relevant than start a new thread. I have found a few links of presenters on Melody Radio on my cassette tapes from the early 1990s. The presenters did not often give name checks. One of the presenters I remember was this one though I am unsure who he is. He always had a rather distinguished and fruity voice. Can any of you identify him? Many thanks :)

Lord Hanson created Melody as the sort of station he'd want to listen to. The adverts for it said something like 'no jingles, no DJs' etc
I'm sure Peter Marshall, then a Thames continuity announcer was one of the presenters on it in the early days

Yes Peter Marshall was on Melody Radio.

I used to enjoy Melody Showtime - featuring music from the musicals, every evening at 20.00 when I was in London. They also had a classical hour at 21.00 every evening too.

Sadly living in Southampton meant I could only listen to Melody when I was working/staying in London.

Can anybody remember the full weekday and weekend presenter lineup from the launch in 1990?

Thank you for your help with my previous inquiry. Can any of you tell me who the presenter is in this clip from Melody Radio that I recorded in 1995? He sounds familiar but I am unsure who it is. Many thanks :)

That latest clip is of David Allan, one-time BBC2 continuity announcer and on Radio 2 with Country Club and Country Style for about 30 years.
