It's now there for all to see. Humax have provisionally booked a slot for the OAD for the 9200T.

This is the firmware update which should address the following:

- Recording radio from standby
- Playing mp3s through optical output
- Lockup issues due to MHEG content
- no sound on second recording

The booking can be seen here:

http://www.dtg.org.uk/retailer/download_schedule.pl

It will be broadcast from the 6/4 to 10/4 (ie. from Thursday next week).

Brilliant news martin - and thanks for flagging this up. :D Good to see that these essential fixes are coming sooner than many had begun to anticipate.

Oh i forgot to ask, how would the update happen? would the boxes automatically update overnight if set to do so?

I don't know anyone who's actually experienced this phenomenon on the hummy. On all the boxes I've owned before it just happened in the night - woke up with the new SW, and I'm guessing that will be the case here.

might be worth asking JAK99 et al what happened with their machines (8000T) - unless they did it manually...?

I wish they'd stick the update on their web page.

My F5 key is getting all worn out. :-)

I've even got the serial lead and serial<->USB adaptor plugging into the box in readiness!

Hell, if I'm like this about it just not locking up every few hours, what will I be like with chase play and/or autopadding!

How is the update stored on the Humax? On the digifusion 100 it is stored both in flash memory (default, and serial update), and on the hard disk (OTA update). Format the hard disk and you lose any OTA update stored on it and it will revert to the version stored in flash memory. Does the Humax work like this, or is it all stored in one place?

I believe it's all flashed on this one. I had the Digifusion, and when I formated (after selling on ebay) it lost the latest update (a bummer if they've finished the update cycle and aren't planning any more!!)

My parents just formated their 100 and lost the update. Luckily I had already ordered a cable for updating my Hummy. Seems a bit pointless now given the OTA update is only days away, but I guess it was a good buy after all!

You can set it to check for an update automatically go to Menu> Installation > (Type password "0000")> Software Update> Then set Regular Auto Update to "Enable" and you can also choose a time (mine is 4am as its unlikely any recording will be going on then) It turns itself on automatically to do the search so dont worry if youve put the unit in standby.

    :)

I'm going to have to be diving in and out of here to see who can first give us a clue on Thursday as to what we do when it comes out of standby after it's updated overnight.

On my old and trusty Pace, you had to accept the update before it did anything...though I recognise that things have moved on since then.

Are Humax going to recommend a settings reset after an OTA update? They have done for manual firmware updates.

This a new update but there is not going to be just one big one. The updates for the next few weeks and months will be for new bug fixes and or the new features like the ones you mention.

No CECEMF, this update is to address the bugs listed. There will hopefully (crosses fingers behind my back) be further updates in the following weeks/months to give the added features.

I've got an 8000t as well as the 9200. It downloads it automatically overnight (as long as you haven't changed the default setting of 4am automatic) but it doesn't install it. When you switch it on the next day it tells you that new software has been found and asks if you want to install it.

I know that my 9200 (left in standby overnight) is checking for a download every night as my missus has been in the living room a couple of times lately at 4am (trouble sleeping) and told me she saw the 9200 wake up at 4am, display something like auto searching for a minute or two and then go back to standby.

What I don't know (can anyone enlighten us?) is whether it checks all muxes or just the one it was left on before being put into standby.

I would not get excited. Beta 4 is known not to fix any of the major bugs and it introduces quite a few more. The real concern here is why if they actually do they are releasing software known not to work.

Absolutely Barry although, I know the way that guys works now and the post was deliberate.

There will be a fair amount of work on betas/alphas before it can get to a stage where it can be released. Thats the way it goes with these things unfortunately - but rightly so. We are talking weeks at least. They wouldnt deliberately break things or leave some things not working or half implemented unless it was beta, alpha or test software. The end user official software if not touched and they are not affected by this work.

This is just another trolling exercise Barry.Williams seems to specialise in and enjoy doing. Lets all ignore it (I know, I'm not!).

I personally am looking forward to the update as my previously very reliable 9200T, has locked up quite a few time recently at 10:00pm. Let's hope this will cure it!

Did I say I was excited? Does Humax tell us this is Beta 4? Do you know what you are talking about?

Now back to my heightened expectation for Thursday ... for what... unless evidenced to be otherwise....I'll presume will be a decent, considered, timely, and researched fix.

    Rat's I was 3 days out!

Last October just after the 9200 appeared I predicted first OAD on 3rd April but it looks like it's going to be the 6th. Oh well, 3 days out in a prediction made 6 months ago ain't bad I guess. ;)

But only yesterday you were saying there would be new software released today. Therefore it would be Beta 4 as no further code testing had been done. Thats how software testing is carried out and released. The Beta 4 code would become the final code renamed as a Full Release.

So the Final software that was to be released today has now disappeared and they are back to the drawing board. Does not exactly inspire confidence that they pull supposedly extensively tested code at a few hours notice.

No. There are at least two code streams, not just a single one as you suggest. There is clearly one for feature development, from which Beta 4 was built, and one for bug fixes, from which the OTA update is being built.

It has already been stated that the test features and enhancements in Beta 4 are not in the OTA update. For example, the OTA update release will not contain chase play, unlike Beta 4.
