I read an article in reveal or something the other day talking about how friends sometimes 'follow' each other into splitting/divorcing as they convince themselves they need a new start too. it was quite sad as a girl that did so ended up hugely regretting it. Obviously that's not necessarily the case here but I think it's possible it happens.
It is sad for her and her husband, I've always really liked her.
