To try to balance my own negativity, until evidence shows otherwise I shall choose to believe things will turn around once we have a balanced strike-force on the pitch. You only need to look at Newcastle to see how fast a season can turn around in this year's PL.

I agree that history shows that the big teams inevitably get their acts together and will be amazed if Southampton or WHU finish in the top 4. We just need to make sure we get our house in order before the others do. Problem is we've been saying this for weeks now.

Oh God, give it a rest. We are not "in crisis". Not by a long shot. You're so keen on spelling out the maths for us, perhaps you should tell us how many points we currently are behind 4th.

Hint: It's less than the distance between us and the relegation zone.

We have to win games to go up the table, we can't seem to do that, we are in crisis.

Interestingly out of the Arsenal, Man City us and Tottenham, against last season only City are up on points, so by your standard they're in crisis too.

Look, performances have not been up to standard, and we need to improve, but I don't think worrying about relegation is at all warranted.

Pull your head out of your arse.

So did anyone have any success in the members ticket sale this week? I managed to get through pretty quickly today and got tickets for Man C, West Ham, QPR, Newcastle and got Burnley last night.
Given the complete failure of getting only crappy seats vs. Villa in the first ticket sale, i'm pretty happy with that!

I have read elsewhere of others elsewhere who were far less lucky - but the system stinks doesn't it. Having to spend up to 2 hours holding on the phone - and then no guarantee of success or it may even be cut off or crash whilst there are many hospitality packages and tickets on Thomas Cook going spare - at much inflated prices. The days of top teams being watched by their most passionate fans have long since gone - and will never return sad to say. Getting into lower PL teams is less hard but even that is not always the case as last year I was in London for a weekend and wanted a ticket for a Fulham home game and could not get one - I ended up sneaking into Watford and even they told me I was lucky to get in!! The days of turning up on the day seem long gone too altho maybe at Div 1 or Div 2 level you still can

Tbh it has got to the point with me that I am far less bothered about going to matches than I used to be with so many being on TV. 2 years ago I did join my local LFC supporters club and they text me with offers of tickets - unsurprisingly this season there have been far more offers than previously - I even got offered a Chelsea ticket the day before and I went to the Ludogrets and Boro home games but with me out officiating most Saturdays I mostly turn them down. However I am taking a rest from officiating from Dec 6th (so 4 more active Saturdays to go) - after that I may go more we will see. What is certain is that I will not be ringing up the ticket office and waiting any time soon - that system just takes the fans for mugs. Even with the bigger stadium I cannot see it changing that much altho hopefully I am wrong.

However I am a bit of a hypocrite :D - as this week I have booked tickets via Thomas Cook for a Barcelona home game in January - V Atletico Madrid no less - it is my sons 21st birthday present with me, my wife and both my sons going there for a long weekend and I am really looking forward to it!!

It's really bad for local supporters or any supporter who doesn't earn lots of money wanting to get tickets especially for families. My grandad took my mum to both Liverpool and Everton matches when she was a kid.

Yeah the cost is getting somewhat ridiculous. It's costing me over £500 to take me and my dad to the 5 games I got tickets for. The cost of a ticket to see us play Newcastle in the centenary stand is eye watering! (£59 each :o)

There's NO WAY that that footage hasn't been doctored, surely?

    Sensational if it's real though.

I see Balo has been sent back from Italy with hamstring issues, so idea yet how serious this is.

It's lucky if one of your own players has a very serious injury?

Could be a blessing. I'd like to see Lallana behind Sturridge with Coutinho and Sterling either side of Lallana but slightly deeper. Ideally Can and Henderson in centre midfield but we all know that won't happen just yet.

Inter interested in Gerrard, Roma snooping around Johnson? There must be a transfer window on the horizon.

Steven Gerrard? - a LFC legend, one of our best ever players, many including myself see him as a likely future LFC manager but there are issues which need addressing and I'd be interested in others opinion.

To come to the core of it - he is not as influential on the pitch as he used to be and imo is being asked to play a role in the team which he is not that good at (defensive midfielder). He does not seem to recognise that and seems to have an expectation of just staying on and having his contract renewed at the level it is now. What should the manager and the club do?

Am I wrong in my analysis? Is his form good enough?
Is he only not as effective cos of the poor quality around him?
I think he is still influential as an encourager to those around him in his captain role and he still passes the ball better than almost anyone so is that good enough to keep him in the team? If he stays in the team do we maybe need to have another specialist DM in the team with him to help our defence properly? (Lucas? Joe Allen?) Or does that use up 2 places in the team when we need to put attackers in?
Should his role in the team be changed? Back to attacking midfield? - but maybe not playing a full 90 minutes? Or something else?
Should the club give him the new contract anyway - cos we have to keep him at the club? Maybe we should give him a coaching role straight away as a step towards management?
Perhaps we should renew his contract on a lower wage? - this is maybe how FSG seem to be thinking - but is that an insult to someone who has given so much to the club over the years?
Or should the club let him go if other clubs make a good offer for him?

I have no clear answers on this myself and regularly change my opinion - the things which do not change tho are that he is one of the best LFC players ever, his form has dropped recently and he is someone I think is definitely future LFC manager material. How to move forward from where we are now is what I change views about - and to help me clarify things maybe the input of others might help. Over to you.

Same happened at Chelsea last season Alan with JT and Frank. In general I think most clubs are trying to drive down wages so only JT accepted a one year deal on reduced terms.
I can't for one minute think FSG will not want to do the same. To pay him on his current level would be a bad business decision simply based on his age and effectiveness.
I really don't think loyalty counts much in this day and age. One applies to fans.

Thanks Jova can see that totally - did JT really accept a deal on lower terms - did not realise that..

Would also be interested in any LFC fans giving their views on SG and where we go with him.

Alan - in brief (on my lunch break) -

I do think the lack of a Suarez, Torres etc has a slight part to play in him being less effective, that said the role he is playing most definitely is not doing him any favours, he should imo, be played higher up the field for sure. I do believe he can have more influence on a game then.
Yes he should be given a new contract, certainly not a higher wage though. Unsure what he is on at min, maybe keep at same level?
We should not let him go, a Man City would be more than happy to pay his wages and would no doubt not play him a defensive midfielder and he'll show he has more to offer.
Gary Mac didn't even sign with us until he was an older age than Gerrard is now, yet he was very influential to us. I won't write Gerrard off yet, I'd just play him in a different role.
