I wouldnt go getting your hopes up there is always "talk of a movie" Hustle being a good example, which is one which looked like it might actually happen.
Why did Channel 5 switch to Sky in the first place? I'm guessing it was money related, it does seem to be better now than it was and having the news at 6.30pm while it compete with BBC News and ITV News and likely low rated has allowed 7pm to get better ratings although I think they should program it better rather than just repeats.
Cost. ITN got the deal on the premise that they'll help build a new HD studio at Northern and Shell HQ which is now fully operational as of this week. They've also reduced costs by making journalists self-edit (a common ITN and BBC regional method) and in some cases become video journalists. However, this hasn't been evident in the quality of the journalism thanks to the editorship of former CNN editorial executive Geoff Hill.
Incidentally as seen with London Tonight's move to a VR studio in October, the change has hardly been evident with 5 News to your average viewer.
Sky lost their way when Northern and Shell took over management of Channel 5 along with the politics of having a rival media baron who has a 34% share in the company producing Richard Desmond's news bulletins.
There's no bad blood with C5 whatsoever if that's what you're implying, as I mentioned she tweeted words to that effect last week. Indeed Suzi has been a regular panelist on the channel's morning talk show The Wright Stuff since leaving TGS, and in her time doing TGS she was given her own series called Stunning Pictures. I don't know exactly how the decision came about. C5 probably ordered North One to make changes in light of the ratings falling off a cliff but left it up to them to decide what would work best. Suzi seems to blame Jason for what went on as I believe they are no longer on speaking terms, so that tells its own story. Shame really as they had good chemistry on the show but clearly the relationship went south very quickly.
I haven't watched Gadget Man yet, but I dunno if it will appeal to me. High-end barbecues are being tested next week. In freezing cold November. Oh joy! I think it's targetting a different audience to TGS, more upmarket obviously (although I was slightly bemused by Amy Childs' presence in the advert for the show) and also a more casual kind of viewer. So on that front I'm not worried and I think TGS will hold its own. The ratings will be higher for the C4 show partly because it's on C4 and also partly because of Stephen Fry who is an immense talent and one that people will watch regardless of what he is on, rather than what the show offers per se.
After the very solid consolidated figures for episode 1 of the new series (over 1.3m inc. +1), it's hard to see TGS imploding regardless of what happens with Gadget Man. Both episodes so far have been up year-on-year so that's encouraging. And if the figures do decline more than expected, they have a great opportunity to win viewers back in a few weeks time with the big Christmas special which looks a real cracker.
I've warmed to the new look Gadget Show still miss it when it was hosted by the fab five. But the slight problem I had with the previous version was Jason & Suzi not doing as many of the challenges and reports in previous years. It's good to see Jason back in the thick of it as his enthusiasm is infectious. Gadget Man was all right but not sure I'll watch every week.
Every time I'm unfortunate enough to catch a bit of Eastenders, such as tonight, I keep thinking about the Dead Ringers sketch that portrayed the EE writers as posh luvvies who've never been anywhere near the East End of LOndon or a working-class person in their life.
Eastenders is one of the worst programmes on television. The scripts are appallingly bad. It's a relentless barrage of unpleasant characters being permanantly miserable.
Eastenders, X Factor and England football matches have all stalled in the ratings this autumn for the same reason - the Olympics. Miserable soap characters, contrived music shows and overpaid prima donna footballers go against the stunning Olympic spirit we saw in the summer so all three programmes have lost their casual viewers.
If Eastenders wants to improve its ratings it needs to cheer the hell up. (Memo to Corrie and Emmerdale. Take the same advise. You're not quite as depressing as Eastenders, but you're pretty close.)
Er not it doesn't
Look at the past for example the 'Depressing storylines' are the ones that's done well and bought the viewers in.
There's very little that's depressing in the show right and and I think it needs to drop the lightheartedness and replace it with the grit again.
As for horrible characters theres......Patrick,Ian(?),Denise,Fatboy,Poppy,Abi,Jay(?),Alice,Jean,Alfie(?)
I could go on.
People see what they want to see and the whole Depressing thing is pure rubbish.
EastEnders xmas 2003 & 2005 were pretty happy and yet viewers complained it wasn't 'EastEndersish)
I wish people would make up their minds on what they actually want.
Oh and if people find a TV soap Depressing..Well I just wonder how they actually cope with the problems that real life can offer.

I don't see the point of 5 doing news when there are so many other news programmes and news channels around. If it is a PSB requirement it should be removed. They are not offering anything radically new or different and most of the time look inferior to the BBC, ITV, C4 and Sky.

Dancc there you were worrying that you wouldn't see enough ratings, rzt certainly fixed that problem for you heh.
These rare all day postings show what a millstone the kids shows have been for BBC1, and what a shot in the arm being rid of them will be for BBC1's overall share.
Panorama had a shocker last night. Must have been niche if it sent regular Pano viewers scurrying for the comfort of the Rovers....
I find these figures quite interesting. BBC Breakfast is usually on 1.5m/1.6m with a 36% share, Daybreak fell to 600k and 16% at the time of the relaunch and Lorraine is usually on 900k and 19%. It's only a small shift, but could this be the start of ITV regaining a little bit of ground at breakfast?
Terrific start for Stephen Frys new show, will be interesting to see how it holds up. Think there is definitely an opening for a quality gadget themed show, since the once very watchable Channel 5 version went down hill.

BBC Breakfast - Overnight ratings since September:
well it looks like Stephen Fry won the battle of the Gadget Shows, going to be really hard for C5 to compete, since this series at leas will be locked, with no changes that can be made.
good to see a EastEnders top 8 million, Panorama on the other hand, oops
BBC Two and HBO announce that Family Tree, a new eight-part comedy series co-written and co-created by Christopher Guest (Best In Show, Waiting For Guffman, This Is Spinal Tap) and Jim Piddock (Best In Show, Too Much Sun, Independence Day) and starring Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, The IT Crowd) is in production in the UK.
Christopher Guest says: “I am also delighted to welcome myself to BBC Television. I am very lucky to be working with an incredibly talented cast. Chris O’Dowd has been on my radar ever since he was a child actor in Wales.”
Chris O’Dowd adds: “I’m terribly excited and monumentally under-qualified to work on an improvised show with Chris Guest. I call him Chris ‘coz we are friends. He calls me George. I don’t know why.”
Gadget Man - 2.03m (2.28m)
Gadget Show - 766k (782k)
All exclude +1 (figures with +1 in brackets).
A much more convincing margin of victory than I'd anticipated, I have to say.
I probably shouldn't be too surprised, though. That special they did with Fry did really well. And Panorama massively underperformed last night, so there was more viewers around specifically at that 8:30 junction than there normally will be.
Let's see where it settles over the next few weeks. TGS didn't exactly disgrace itself as one might have expected it to drop more than 200k in the circumstances, so on that score I feel I was right. There should be room for both programmes in that slot as they aren't really offering the same thing.
So the week prior to I'm a Celebrity launching and ITV reportedly going into promotional overdrive in primetime for Daybreak, it managed a 17.1% share on average Mon-Fri.
The week after the primetime spots began appearing, it dropped back slightly to 16.8%.

Stephen Fry won and quite considerably but this is no surprise as the show featured Stephen Fry and he is a popular personality. Also a show on Channel 5 will rate less as it's on Channel 5. Let's see how this pans out but I can't see TGS ever beating the Gadget Man, as long as it stays at its usual levels it's fine.

I'm looking forward to that.
The Musketeers won't air until 2014.
I think Doctor Who will be airing later next season as part of its 50th birthday celebrations, I imagine The Musketeers will air Spring 2014.

I didn't watch either gadget show last night, but it looks like TGS got a well deserved pasting after Channel 4 brought in Stephen Fry.
