Would not fancy PsychoTherapist electricity bill.
But you probably do not need to heat the house with all those on.
4 of them are in the same room, switched on 24/7, for file sharing purposes etc. Plus, several other pieces of equipment, including an Xbox 360. Heating is switched off in there, the desk fans are switched on instead.
The electric bill is indeed my most expensive utility bill, lol.
I got rid of most of my old computers because they were clogging the pissing loft up. Now I have one desktop (27" iMac) and a laptop (Dell Insprion Duo) both bought for me by work.
@PsychoTherapist: Do you live in a branch of PC World and does your electricity bill arrive at your doorstep in a box? I bet you live next door to the National Grid!

4 pcs on just for file sharing? Is it an office or something?
I have an i7 WIndows 7 laptop for my everyday use and work, a Linux based laptop for playing around with (currently Mint 14), an iPad 2 and and a Samsung Galaxy S3 for work/pleasure.
That's just me, there are two more laptops and tablets in the house too!

Don't forget to wipe your viewing history before the wife gets home.
Win7 Tower - Gaming machine. (It gets less and less use now, I doubt I'll replace it when it dies).
Laptop - Work.
Mac Mini - General day to day stuff.
(All connected to a KVM switch)
iPad - Bit's and bobs such as instant browsing, email, reading and casual games.

have you looked at virtualising some of that stuff ?
I guess I really only need one but I've ended up with 1 Windows PC, 1 Windows laptop, 1 Android tablet and 1 Android smartphone. I've ended up using them in different ways (although there's a bit of overlap) so they are complementary rather than competitive.
The only one I've bought for myself has been the laptop - all the others have been gifts/donations of various sorts.
Self built: Intel i3 2120 4GB - Mainly used for playing wow.
Self built: Intel Celeron G530 4GB - HTPC used for watching videos and TV.
Dell XPS Laptop: Intel i5 2330M 4GB - Not really used that much, surfing browsing etc.
Lenovo Thinkpad Edge: E525 AMD A4-3300M 6GB - Used a bit more than the Dell
Fujitsu Lifebook AH530: Intel Pentium P6200 4GB - Used every now & again.
HP Microserver (1):AMD Neo 36L 3GB - Running Debian serving TV across the network
HP Microserver (2):AMD Neo 40L 4GB - Running Debian serving DVD's, music & downloads.
Emachines ER1401 - Not in use.
One old Chinese resistive screen tablet - Again not in use.
x3 Raspberry Pi's (2x 256mb, 1 512mb)
These are machines I've collected over the years, I've given my brother quite a few bits and pieces as well, most of these are old now but I have enough to last a good while.
My favourite machine has to be the Thinkpad with it's fantastic keyboard!
4 pcs on just for file sharing? Is it an office or something?
You could call it a home office lol.
2 are dedicated for file sharing (1 of which isn't all that critical, but I think everyone just generally forgets to switch off). 1 is a Web/FTP server, mostly for testing purposes.
The other, as well as some non-crucial file sharing, it's main role is to distribute the Satellite TV signal, from my Motorized dish (thousands of TV channels), all over the house, across the network.

1 hp dc7700 HTPC
1 hp 2133 netbook
I want to repalce the 2133 with something a bit more speedier, its a great netbook and lovely to type on, one of the best keyboards I have found on a netbook... but its rather slow as its a via cm-7. I just do not like these type of keyboards http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/326095888/New-Notebook-font-b-keyboard-b-font--font-b-Laptop-b-font-parts-font-b.jpg they feel awful to type on
