no problem.:) i was just about to post the news, when i saw people were already talking about it.:o well done to cedric and lana on their us hit though.
"Lana Del Rey earned respect because she is so good" he says. "When wrote it, I released that she was a brilliant song writer and a magical artist."
I love the fact when asked to name the Top 10 best songs he's either written/co-written/produced in a very long career, Lana had 2 songs in there (Summertime Sadness and Young & Beautiful). Praise indeed from a legendary songwriter/producer.
Anywherebuthome: Think a lot of fans would agree with where you are coming from there. She writes dark songs, but they are oddly at the same time filled with hope and ooo a whole range other emotions that just get under your skin. I've always thought she's a great lyrical story teller in her tunes, very captivating indeed.
Haha you quoted me so fast my typos ended up in there Koney (whoops)!
Really high praise indeed from him given the incredible career he's had isn't it? I reckon she's just a total breath of fresh air for somebody like Rick. He's probably bored to death of a lot of today's bland pop stars. Then she comes along and bingo! Somebody genuinely talented and interesting to work with again. She’s brought the best out of him again.
She brings her abilities to the table, he brings his, you add them together and it equals an amazing tune. Can't get a better equation than that! Lana obviously adores working with him too judging by remarks in past interviews.
Just reading the full interview with him on Billboard, think it deserves a link rather than the bit off the fan site, very interesting read for anyone who's interested:
With everything gaining top 5 is a possibility, but Eminem is almost a lock for a top 5 debut next week
Lana Del Rey and Cedric Gervais celebrate their first Hot 100 top 10 placements, as "Summertime Sadness" (remixed from its original slower form by the latter artist) pounces 15-9 as the chart's top Airplay Gainer. It powers 16-14 on Radio Songs (69 million, up 26%), 9-8 on Digital Songs (132,000, up 12%) and 29-23 on Streaming Songs (1.9 million, up 29%).
i mentioned this in the shania thread yesterday, but has anyone else noticed that "young and beautiful" seems to be picking up pace on us itunes? its been hanging around for a while slowly building up pace at the lower end of the chart, but its now on its way into the top 50. any special reason why this is happening?

Exposure, basically (the film has just been released on DVD in the US). Also the album version of Summertime Sadness is just 4 places behind the remix on US iTunes . Interscope missed a chance with Y&B by not promoting it imo. But the remix has opened the door for her in the US so thanks to Cedric (the album is currently #9 on US itunes, crazy for a 20 month old album). The follow up album will be massive in the US.

i just had a look and realised its starting to climb back up the hot 100.:D it should climb a little bit more this week or at least hold steady at #80 perhaps.:D i agree, her profile is clearly on the rise over there and her next album could be huge.

Interscope really should think about getting behind Y&B now in the US. It's clear that the song resonates with the GP once they have heard it and it's already got a good head start on iTunes. But please don't let them release the Cedric remix

oh dear, it really doesn't work does it? although, the "summertime sadness" remix isn't as good as the original either in my opinion. it would be missed opportunity for interscope not to exploit the longevity of the song, but its possible that the album and the two singles could all be platinum hits in the us at this rate.
Mmm! Ok. I do not wish to be too unkind to Cedrix as he played his part in the success of Summertime Sadness, and I would thank him for that. But jeeeeeeezuuuuuuuuusss Chrrrriiist that was a cheesy remix of Y&B. It's even worse than what he did with Summertime Sadness. He just seems to use the same limited bag of tricks each time on the songs.
So. Anyway. Now we've all dissed it, it'll probably be another worldwide smash and they'll sign him up to mutilate the rest of Lana future songs and possibly a few more past ones too. You know I always thought the likes of Carmen, Dark Paradise and Gods and Monsters needed to have a cheesy make over with a really naff clapping sound just before the chorus starts. It just makes a tune really doesn't it? Or at least it does if you're whoever decides the playlists for radio these days...

It's embarrassingly bad, isn't i? Thanks Cedric for helping Lana appeal to the shallow radio crowd with SS but please tootle along now and remix/destroy someone else's songs. Thank you.

"Young and Beautiful," Lana Del Rey
"Green Light," John Legend feat. Andre 3000
"White Flag," Dido
"You Get What You Give," New Radicals

So depressing yet so captivating.

This is just the beginning
It's absolutely mad how long this has been knocking around though.

That's just about the most cynical music moment of 2013.
Well done Cedric.
