Just wondering?
It looks like there so many speakers.
How far away can it be heard?
Also is there much noise when camping at night?

Please tell me you're not basing your decision on going to a music festival because it might be too loud...

When i went during the 90's the sound in the arenas was always excellent, probably even better now. As for trying to get any sleep at night............forget it! Even though most of the music stops about midnight, it does not go quiet everywhere! Party is just starting for most people!

Some people have sensitive hearing just like any other of our senses.

Someone told me how they pump out the backstage the opposite DB or something so behind the stage isn't loud.

I wonder how much the smaller stages hear the bigger ones in the background.

No I don't think it was that loud compared to other festivals, the year i went in 2007, there were actually complaints that the Killers and Arctic Monkeys were too quiet on the Pyramid stage. Also we seemed to get a good nights sleep every night despite being camped near the dance village which played music throughout the night. I think we were that tired from all the walking, boozing etc we just crashed out.

Not much. Bear in mind it is a vast site - you do get a bit of an impression of the scale on TV, but it's not until you actually go there that you realise just how big the whole site is.

You can sometimes hear a bit drifting across when it's quiet, but it's not an issue when there's someone playing. They do a great job with the speaker set-up, and the stage layout helps - the Other, John Peel, Park and the Dance Village are all to the rear of the Pyramid arena.

I started going 35 years ago and have not missed any and would say the golden age was the 80's before MDC started messing about with decibel meter's although these days with so many stages there has to be some form of order as otherwise it would be a right mess.

    My Crew camp is next to Gate D and we could clearly hear Blondie at the Other Stage and at other times we were picking up some of the Park Stage - although we heard nothing from the Pyramid stage which is no great surprise as that is far further away.{ and the speakers are facing away from us }

Most people by now have worked out where the quiet campsites are although the big rush is to get close to the action.

A music festival probably isn't the place for them then.

Bestival is pretty damn loud! I could hear the main stage from my campsite which was quite far away!

I would imagine that the Download and Sonisphere festivals are the loudest.

I agree! Been twice and we forked out for luxury camping which was quite far from the stages yet we could still here the music!!

Definitely not, the metal and dance festivals top it for noise. Although it will be pretty loud.

If you are worried about your hearing I would recommend getting some custom musicians ear plugs like the bands themselves wear at concerts. Such as these:
    http://www.puretonemusic.net/custom_earplugs.html

They cost a lot around about £200, but are the most amazing ear plugs you'll ever wear. They just act as a sound reduction so the volume doesn't deafen you and lets all the good sound of the band (if you see what I mean) through without any loss in sound quality you would get with normal ear plugs. If anything they make the sound quality of the gig better, the clean effect is like almost like listening to a CD.

With those babies in you can be right on the front row next to one of those big speakers and even if someone like Metallica are playing their loudest you'll still hear everything perfectly without getting deafened or getting tinnitus afterwards.

Highly recommend them to anyone that goes to a lot of gigs. You'll probably find your local hearing specialist can sort you out with a pair.

We camped at the pink campsite, which I believe was just a little bit further down from luxury camping. We were thinking of forking out a bit more for the luxury camping this year... is it worth it? And will you be going this year? :D

P.S. Strongly recommend Bestival to anybody who has never been. One of the best weekends of my life (last year). Brilliant!

I agree, Bestival is fantastic. One of the best festivals in my opinion. I went last year and the year before. There's so many different types of music...definitely something for everyone. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that you would still have an amazing time even if there was nobody on the lineup that you loved. The first year that we went we spent a lot of time in the Drambuie Bar (for some reason they didn't have it last year) and many of the other little bars, dancing until god knows what time.

No I won't be going this year unfortunately as money is a bit tight! Well, I say that but I was having a look the other day and I'm tempted to fork out for a ticket lol. Yeah the luxury camping was definitely worth it. When I say luxury, it was called 'Tangerine Fields'. Separate campsite and it had absolutely loads of space, loads of showers, phone chargers, proper toilets, hair straighteners, hair dryers, pillows, air beds etc. There was four of us and it cost about £200 if I remember correctly...so that was just an extra £50 each on top of the cost of the festival ticket, which I didn't think was bad at all. Usually we just do normal camping at festivals, but we did think that was well worth it.
