Some people might prefer their baked goods slightly overdone. besides: He's probably the last member of royalty to perform manual labour. Because he screwed up. They never tried again ever.

    Apart from Diana

Not sure she should be on the list at all. She was popular - of that there is no doubt - but "great".

    Just what constitutes "greatness"?

To my mind - to be "great" - the person would have had to have made some uniquely valuable contribution to this country or the world, made a difference that nobody else could (or had thought of) and probably faced (and overcome) great adversity to achieve it.

    Fame /= Greatness

Hell no, that position would suit John Cleese since he knows all about Fawlty Towers:D

Well, it was a nationwide poll so i guess we all did-or those who bothered to vote did.

Princess Diana was still front page news on many papers iirc five years after her death so maybe its not completely surprising she is on the list. Though 3 is very high.

In my view, the greatest ever Briton is Charles Darwin. Closely followed by either Clement Atlee or Nye Bevan for the introduction of the NHS.
    William Beveridge, surely.

This is what happens when you let the general public choose:rolleyes:

The great Thomas Telford doesn't even make the top 100.
