You can't be "allergic" to a cat scratch. It's not physically possible. You can get an infection from cat scratches, although if you wash the scratch properly afterwards, it's unlikely. The pain of the scratch depends on (a) state of cat's claws - some are sharper than others, and (b) where it scratches you - some areas of the skin have a better nerve supply.

OP, unless you develop red streaks running up your arm - basically, get over it and stop annoying the cat.

A woman who works for my friend got an infected arm after her cat scratched her. She was in hospital for a week, had IV antibiotics and had to have an operation to have the wound drained.

Cat scratches can be dangerous , they can infect the patient with a Bartonella virus and be really ill .

I say you've been infected with a hook worm, hopefully just the feline version, rather than the human version as that's a very nasy parasite;)

Probably. The only way to be sure you get rid of it is to drink a concoction of household cleaning aids, normally found under the kitchen sink. 2 parts bleach to 1 part Windolene.

I would be asking myself why the cat scratches in the first place!

I could go into all the details of antibodies, innate and cellular immunity, how the immune response is produced, etc., but it would probably be quite boring. Suffice it to say that no, you can't be allergic to water, in terms of H2O. You might be allergic to something IN the water, even in minute quantities, but you can't be allergic to water. The human body is about 60% H2O. If you were allergic to it, you'd die.

So if anyone thinks they're allergic to water, bless them, they're completely deluded and attention-seeking.

do they? his nails never look that dirty to me. and he refuses to use the litter tray these days! goes outside to do his business

And the soil he digs in outside doesn't contain bacteria and all sorts of other nasties? Probably more likley to pick up an infection from an outdoor cat than one that uses indoor facilties...

She got an infection in her hand and her hand and then her arm swelled up. The docs said it was some nasty bacteria that got into her from the cat.
