Why are tabloids so obsessed with the X Factor?

It seems hardly a day goes by without Simon Cowell, The X Factor or Tulisa on the front cover of The Sun and the Daily Star? What is the big deal with a boring, past its sell by date singing contest that has proven to be rigged? If it is cancelled, will these two papers have black borders.

That is the kind of thing that is lapped up by the majority of mindless tabloid readers. They are just giving the masses what they want.

Believe it or not editors of newspapers are in it to make money so they give the articals that they think we want, if you don't like the coverage in any particular paper ditch it and move on.

I suppose you are more likely to watch The X Factor if you read The Sun than the Independent. Yet Simon Cowell having a one night stand is hardly news and I'd love to see what The Sun would be like if the show was cancelled.
