Past few days youtube has been incredibley slow. Me and a friend have both been experiencing it. Some videos work fine but the majority seem to take ages. We are both on aol. I think someone told me they were having problems on bt, but i'm not sure. Anyone been experiencing this?

Some videos are fine but some are superbly slow.
i'm on AOL too btw...hmm
Exaclty! What puzzles me though is no one seems to be mentioning it or complaining anywhere about the recent slow speed.
I'm also on AOL.
YouTube is only one of thosands of sites affected. Only the top pages of YouTube seem to work in AOL because they are cached by AOL proxies. But if you dig down for old video clips, you get slow performance and lots of timeouts.
This problem started a week ago AOL is saying nothing about it. You can try contacting your AOL support to pressure them to fix the problem.

You check to see if you have the problem by visiting Cogent's web (http://www.cogentco.com/) site from your AOL session. It shold load fast, but if it doesnt, then you're affected.
I didn't know that aol used proxies for people not using the software, but as I don't use the software and I get the above they must. This is explains the only some videos working part. Thanks for the info cal2007!
EDIT: The cogent website loads really fast, so I don't know if its starting to get fixed, and youtube front page which used to be slow is starting to load faster, and more videos seem to be working but a lot still aren't.
it's not just AOL though
maybe because the cogent website loads really fast for me on aol.
There was a fiber cut yesterday that affected North America (and traffic trough it) as well. It caused problems with YouTube as well for many others (not just AOL users). But that's been fixed already.
The fiber cut was also unrelated to the peering issue between AOL and Cogent that I posted about. AOL users have been experiencing for this for over a week and still exists as of this post.

Exactly what happens to me.
This better get sorted out.
