I saw Skyfall at the Odeon a few days ago and counted 6 (or was it 7?) Bond-related adverts in the half-hour of adverts that preceded the movie.

As a note, It's definitely the best 007 film I've seen, although I don't see that counting as much as I've only seen Goldeneye and Quantum of Solace before it. It could actually rank as the best film I've ever seen - although Casino Royale looks like it was a good movie.

How could you watch Quantum of Solace without seing Casino Royale first?

Well I certainly recommend watching Casino Royale as its part 1 or a 2 part story.

Raises interesting points, but to be outraged about it like he is?

It's a good job it was "banned."

Not at all, it lived up to the hype, loved it. :)

Whilst I did enjoy Skyfall - I think its a shame they didn't wrap up the "Mr White" story arc.

Considering that his organisation had "people everywhere" - the story for Skyfall could have remained relatively unchanged - but could have incorporated and concluded this element (Silva could have been a rogue agent working for Mr White for example).

Good point - maybe Quantum will feature again in another film?

I think that was filmed for Quantum Of Solace, but the director left it out so the next film could follow on if required. A deluxe edition of the QOS DVD/Blu-ray was in the works, and apparently this was to be on the deleted scenes, but then the MGM financial crisis hit.

I doubt they want to tread that path again.

I thought it was brilliant and I don't like James Bond really.

Meh. I took that as just a callback to the sexist days and to show Bond is not such a great guy after all. He's damaged and a jerk with no real friends.
Monneypenny is a sectitary... that's her job.
Plenty guys get killed for no reason and Bond doesn't care, I'd say he was an equal opportunity killer if anything.

    More curious to me was
who was the guy getting shot in the head in China by the sniper. What exactly was the point of that? Did the baddie think that far ahead as to design a lift that Bond could follow him up in? That guy put in A LOT of forward planning, but in the end he sort of didn't know what he wanted anyway.
They didn't need a sniper to kill him, anyway...
the quote that keeps coming back to me is...

I suggest you don't worry about those things and just enjoy yourself Austin.
    I]to camera[/I
and that goes for you too.;)

I dont think Bond could afford to get emotionally involved - I know he said he would help Severine but when he really fell in love in Casino Royale, look what happened. He became really damaged from that (as you said) and turning into a cold bastard is a coping mechanism (imo)
Bonds meeting with Severine reminded me of Xenia in the casino (Goldeneye) for some reason :o

Just because QoS was a misstep, it doesn't mean that the idea of Quantum is bad.

Any else think the film was a cross between the Bourne series and Austin powers?

..like when Roger Moore torpedoed the beautiful girl in the helicopter in The Spy Who Loved Me and then joked about it – a scene from which it has taken me 35 years to recover.
Oh, the poor little lamb. Stick to reviewing restaurants, FFS.

Not for that reason - but just because of how great a leap forward Skyfall has taken us from the CR/QOS arc.

Barbara Broccoli said the series will move on to different places now - but hasn't entirely ruled out whether Bond 24 returning to it. But I don't see it happening. While I'm sure there are some people who do, I don't give a damn about the Quantum organisation any longer or that story arc.

It just strikes me that the way Quantum has moved is very similar to what they did with Spectre at the very start...

I was quite disappointed with Skyfall, I thought there would be more chases type action than there was.

Feel that CR was the best followed by Q of S and Skyfall is a sad third place. Everyone has been hypnotised by all the pre film hype and I also agree with a previous poster about the amount of Bond related ads before the start of the film.

The twist at the end was good though, never saw that one coming.

I purposely didn't watch any trailer at all, had no idea what the film was about. And I was actually expecting to not like it as much because there was so much hype, so I was being extra critical, but I loved it.
