On the 1st September, VM are increasing some of their call charges.
The main ones are that all calls to international numbers will go up by 5 pence per minute if you don't have Talk International.
0845 numbers will cost 7ppm at all times which compares with BT's 2ppm from 6am to 6pm or 0.5ppm from 6pm to 6am.
0870 numbers will cost 10ppm at all times. BT charge 6ppm from 6am to 6pm and 1.5ppm from 6pm to 6am.
Further details are here: http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/calling-costs.php

Depends on your package but if you're on something like XLN with free landline calls etc its worth checking. I've saved a fortune by just using their numbers for my bank, sky etc. Nothing to lose by checking.

If someone gives me such a no to ring I tell them I only phone regular phone no's.
Not as cheap as when with BT, but cheaper than Virgin.
I've just left Sky Talk because of this, my calls this month to 0845/0870 no's totalled over £9.00!
As mentioned above:

will find alternatives for many 08 numbers. Including 0800 ones which are not free from mobiles. (While on that subject, 02380 030800 is a landline number "gateway" for 0800 mobile calls).

I'm glad BT are losing customers I've never really been happy with their services or attitude.
Yes, people may have ditched their landline, however that just means they are spending even more in call costs.
Yes, you may get so many minutes, but you have to pay silly money for them, they 99.8% of the time don't include 084 and 087 numbers and calls to those numbers are a lot higher than from landlines - not all numbers are listed on SayNoTo0870.
So people complain about spending £10 plus a few £ on calls from the landline, yet think nothing of then paying £35+ on a mobile for less of a service and then dearer other calls.
Just saw this and think the charge for pressing 3 on 1471 of 10p is ridiculous! Do you get charged for doing that on Virgin Phone?
No, that's one of the charges VM haven't introduced, probably due to not being able to programme the system to charge, not through not wanting to charge.
Hardly difficult for customers to circumvent though is it? All it requires is to write down the number of the last caller and then dial direct. An awful lot of people withold their number anyway.
Yeah.
Though with caller display phones you don't even need to write it down, you just go through the list of received calls and press to call the number. Most calls are from known numbers, so you can just call them up from the phone book in the phone.
Maybe an awful lot of people do withhold their number, however we rarely get withhold numbers, less than 1%.
I guess thats using an 0844 number?
Where can i find VM charges for these numbers and whether there going up as well.
I called my mate on a Thailand landline, we talked for just over an hour and the bill was £58:eek:

18185 is better.
Same 1p rate, however you don't get charged unless you connect to either the callee or voicemail / answer-phone.
With the 0844 numbers you are paying as soon as you hit their announcement and whilst you are then dialling the destination and then listening to the ringing tone or engaged tone, try several times whilst they are engaged and it soon mounts up.

You can buy the Orchid Dialler, this you can program with your chosen providers so to route calls via one or more providers, if you go via Money Saving Expert you get a discount. For most calls the likes of 18185 are cheaper than First Telecom.
