If you are going to introduce the 'Snow Goose', then 'Tubular Bells' by Mike Oldfield should be on this list, a much more original and influential piece.
OK, I have now bought Tubular Bells (on CD). It is growing on me for sure.
Speed of Life - David Bowie
Misirlou - Dick Dale
Have You Ever Been - Jimi Hendrix (well most of it is instrumental)
Anaesthesia - Metallica (Cliff Burtony goodness )
Samba Pa Ti - Santana
Think the Santana one is my fave, it flows like honey
Do you remember when he was in Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds ? .....Vini not Fraser.
No, I came to the party very late, I'm afraid.
I completely understand why it is said that you either 'get' The Smiths or you don't, and if you do, you really get them. I feel the exact same way about The Durutti Column.

I thought I was on my own with this one, great description. Also a second for both the Camel shouts.
Ooh Abraxas is one of my all time top ten lps, I have it next to my precious Bowie, Bruce Cockburn and Metallica records, that I saved from the great Cd cull of 2000 hehe.
Incident at Neshabur is a good un too..especially with more on the treble on the record player which is funny, think the treble makes the organ sound bassier, hehe might be my player on the fritz!

It's good but I wouldn't say it's better. It's certainly NOT a rock instrumental though which this thread is about.
I totally forgot about that. Good one.
