A week ago my son threw up over his laptop. We cleaned it up, left it up-side down to dry out and bought a cleaning kit.
Anyway, tried it out today, and it switches on okay, loads up okay but half the keys type random nonesense instead of the corresponding letters eg: J = .j, M = [mooe]
Anyone had this problem or got any advice? I am a bit of a numpty, so plain English would be good!

However the sequence of keys you're getting makes me think that there's either a short circuit somewhere or still some fluid/material inside causing problems. It is possible that the keyboard and/or motherboard are damaged.
Ultimately you either take it to bits yourself and look or get a professional to do it for you. Laptops are fairly easy to take to pieces if your careful and patient, but they are a pain in the rear to put back together
