    Pease pudding hot, pease pudding cold,
    Pease pudding in the pot - nine days old.
    Some like it hot, some like it cold,
    Some like it in the pot - nine days old.

    ~~~~~~~~~
    Cinderella
    Dressed in yellow
    went to the ball
    with ha handsome fells
    How many kisses did she get?
    1,2,3....
    Christopher Columbus
    Was a very brave man.
    He sailed the ocean
    In an old tin can.
    And the waves went higher and higher and over
    1,2,3...
    The last two I remember from the 70s, whether they were used before that, I'm not sure.
    and knocks her right out
    I remember another one we all liked but can't quite recall the first few lines.. I'll type as much as I recall
    ????
    I saw a pair a walking
    Down by the river??
    You were kissing (name)
    Down by the river
    How many times did you kiss him?
    and there was another one that we did in brownies which ended
    Salute to the king
    bow to the queen
    and turn right round to the boys in green...
    oh god i remember that one.. my gran actually used to sing it to me when i was a wee thing... think the full lyrics are -
    grannys in the kitchen doing a bit of stitching
    down comes a bogeyman and knocks her out
    ah! said granny thats not fair
    ah! said the bogeyman I don't care.
    or another one...
    my aunt jane she brought me in
    she gave me tea out of her wee tin
    half a bap with sugar on the top
    three black lumps out of her wee shop
    actually not sure whether that last one is a legit skipping song, or just a song that the girls used to sing in the streets,
    Keep the kettle boiling - miss a loop, you're out.
    Sausage in the pan, sausage in the pan
    Turn them over turn them over
    sausage in the pan
    Jelly on the plate, jelly on the plate
    (Can't remember next line! )
    Bluebells, cockle shells, easy ivy, - over!
    Colours, where the rope swings backwards and forwards and each person jumps through and says a colour. If someone repeats it they are out and have to take the end of the rope.
    Three, six, nine, the goose drank wine,
    The monkey chewed tobacco on the street car line.
    The lion choked, the monkey croaked,
    And they all went to heaven in a little row boat,
    Clap-Clap! Clap-Clap!
    I've googled but nothing's jumping out at me.
    A few HERE I remember skipping too during the 60s.
    I remember a different version (we must be weird in North America):
    Cinderella
    Dressed in yella (yellow with an accent ;))
    Went up stairs to kiss a fella
    Made a mistake
    Kissed a snake
    How many doctors did it take?
    1, 2, 3...
    Also
    Strawberry shortcake
    Huckleberry pie
    Who will be your lucky guy
    a, b, c, d-- OMG YOU LOVE DARREN!
    If anyone remembers "doublers" (turning the rope quickly so that it goes round twice for each jump) you did a doubler on the last word of the line, and for each letter of B-O-Y:
    You naughty BOY
    You stole my TOY
    You named it ROY
    You naughty B-O-Y
    etc. etc.
    This thread has reminded me of some others we used to chant
    1, 2 3 mother caught a flea,
    put it in the teapot
    and made a cup of tea.
    The flea jumped out
    hit her on the snout
    in came father
    with his shirt hanging out.
    and
    Not last night but the night before
    Two tom cats came knocking at my door
    I went downstairs to let them in
    they knocked me down with a rolling pin.
    The rolling pin was made of brass
    they turned me up and smacked my a**e.:D:D
    There was more to that one
    A sailor went to sea sea sea
    To see what he could see see see
    But all that he could see see see
    Was the bottom of the deep blue sea sea sea
    Oh, Helen had a steamboat
    The steamboat had a bell
    When Helen went to heaven
    The steamboat went to ______
    Hello, operator,
    Just give me number 9
    If the line is busy
    I'll kick your big ______
    Behind the old piano
    There was a piece of glass
    Helen slipped upon it
    And hurt her little ______
    Ask me for a muffin
    I'll give you some old bread
    And if you do not like it
    Just go and soak your head.
    These are great! Bless us, we were easily pleased back then.
    Does anyone remember French skipping? Two people stood at either end, with feet apart, with a giant loop of elastic around their ankles, made by joining lots of rubber bands together.
    Then someone in the middle performed different jumps, crossing the elastic over, or jumping in and around, or treading on the elastic. Then if you completed the jumps, you went up to the next level! The elastic was raised to knee height, then waist I think?!
    Did we sing during it?
    I DO remember it hurting like hell, as the elastic slid up and down your bare legs, taking the hair with it! :eek: :D
    I remember that - we used to like the coloured rubber bands, and we'd try to get the thicker flat ones, because they lasted longer! Hurt more when they hit you, though.
