if they wanted to put a gay sex scene in there then fine, but one scene would of done the job, we didn't need an entire episode of it, total waste of an episode.............

Loads of comments on here from posters saying how "uncomfortable" they were with the gay scenes - and yet not one comment about the scenes of a man being repeatedly tortured

Oh the bizarre irony of human nature!

Hardly a whole episode - a tad over exageration there

Well, loved that episode I must say. The romantic aspect didn't bother me, just shows a different side to Jack, one that shows he could love someone if he wanted to. Loved the Doctor reference and would like to know which companion he was on about, Rose, Martha or Donna.

Eve Myles acted her socks off in a performance I thought equalled that of her role as Ceri in Belonging, a much missed BBC Wales series.

I would love to see a spinoff series about Torchwood in the late 19th and early 20th Century. Saw small glimpses in the first two series and I would honestly love to see more. Only thing, I would much prefer if Gwen were there too. Jack could somehow take her back so she could join up. I know its a pipe dream and many here would baulk at that idea but don't care at all! :D

Is this the episode where they cut some of the gay stuff for the BBC version?

I found this episode a complete reverse this week. The first twenty minutes were as dull as ditchwater and I almost wanted to turn over and watch the footy on the other side. Then the rest of the episode started to pick up pace with the usual good finish.

I think I was too far ahead of the game tonight. I was really expecting Angelo to be in the car at the end, it just seemed so obvious that was going to happen but even though it didn't, it came as no big surprise he was still alive and behind some of what's going on.

It also felt like an episode of Angel with someone in the past coming back to the present which happened a couple of times. Not surprising really considering the writer was Jane Espenson, one of the writers on that Series.

Great to see Capt Jack back in the thick of the action and being part of the show. It felt more like Torchwood tonight, being mainly just Jack and Gwen and even The Doctor got a mention or two!

Not as good as last week's episode but not a bad episode at all though has been said, strung out and padded considerably by the gay sex scenes. :)

What's the betting that phial of Jack's blood is going to be at the centre of the Miracle?

A possibly pertinent point - Jack gave Angelo a lot of info about the future - in 1928. That's just before the Wall Street Crash - someone with knowledge of the future could make shed-loads of money.

At the moment I'm thinking one of two lines...

...that Angelo wanted to become immortal to be with Jack - he succeeded but he doesn't "repair" as Jack does so he's manked up and just wants to die. He funded Miracle Day having cleaned up in 2009's WS crash and the effect he wanted - for him to die - is what also happened to Jack with the MD effect on everyone else just being an accident - so he or his company paid for all the drugs to try to help.

    or

...those business types experimented on Angelo when they couldn't find Jack - he's been kept alive for years but aged and tortured. He's the original "Miracle" - and he's never revealed what he knew about Jack because he loves him so much. Jack will be ever so slightly miffed at those bad guys.

No we don't but Jack didn't mention it and he seemed to know the species well having eaten it!
I still think it's Jack's bottled blood that has kept Angelo alive......

I know! I felt uncomfortable with the gay scenes, but barely even flinched at the violent scenes.
If I think about it, it's quite disturbing that my brain is naturally like that .
Someone get the Doctor and make him fetch us Sigmund Freud!

My first thought and one which if true, I hope is handled correctly so we don't end up swearing at the TV.

The teasers for the next episode suggest
That Angelo is very old in the present day and the woman who played Kira in Star Trek is his grandaugter

Which brings me to the point of my only criticism of the Angelo & Jack storyline. The sex scene really did not bother me one way or another. I have seen better and more explicit stuff in true blood. However I think they miscast the Actor who played Angelo from the dialogue between him and jack and also what I have put in the spoiler tags I get the impression Angelo was a character in his late teens / early 20s yet the actor cast looked mid to late 30s to me... This could just be my interpretation though.

I would find it just as much a turnoff if it had been about Gwen and her partner (and RTD has never shown them naked and having sex at length. (now I wonder why that could be..) Torchwood isn't supposed to be about romance, gay or otherwise. Still, it gave me a chance to go and cook my supper whilst Jack had his prolonged smooching sessions. As for the torture scenes at least Jack got to be healed and in one piece after it all, unlike the poor woman turned in living scrap metal or the woman slowly incinerated to ashes whilst she was still alive. By comparison to them Jack got off lightly.

    I don't understand
There was only 1 gay 'Sex' scene in the episode (where we saw a bit of bum).

There was a lot of talk both in and out of bed, and a bit of kissing, but don't hetero couples do that as well?. I've certainly seen a lot of that in other shows.

Could have done without the romantic stuff - don't care whether it's gay or straight, it just felt a bit drawn out.

A better episode this week, though, with at least a couple of interesting points. Still not really up to scratch, though.

Hmmm, wonder if you would moan about it being 'shoved in your face' if it was a straight couple, or even 2 women?

I suspect not - slight whiff of homophobia ther methinks!

Not at all. I have mates that are gay. I would of moaned of it was a straight couple as well, sex was not relevent to the plot. I'm finding this series to be the biggest load of tripe I've wasted my time on.
Of course think what you wanna think about me, I've got no problem with gay people whatsoever.

For all we know Angelo could have been the bad guys plant from the start, sent to set up Jack from day 1.

To elaborate on the reasons I thought this was a terrible episode. It wasn't what the story contained itself, more how it was told. I did find the whole gay thing eyeball rolling, solely because the whole thing seemed to be showing gay sex for gay sex sake. Again. Don't have a problem with it, but not that interested in it either.

But the biggest problem was the pacing again. 50 of the 55 minutes (or whatever the running time is) was spent purely setting up 4 or 5 main plot ideas. Jack falling in love, brain monster, betrayal and blood retrieval and finally the big reveal. For too slow and methodical and when the end did come it was once again a 'well that was obvious' moment (for me personally anyway).

I really think there was a half decent story here. But I think its 5 episodes too long.

I am surprised at the poll results as they stand. Don't get me wrong, if people genuinely thought that was an excellent episode then great. Is that because they thought it was a well written character based plot development, or simply because it was Captain Jack centric and had a few Who references in it. I guess it must be the former and I wish I thought the same.

this is meant to be a sci-fi show, not about two men masturbating each other, hopefully less porn and more storyline in the next episode.................

Given the rather superstitious nature of the people involved in those "ceremonies" and the sort of money that was being mentioned - £10k back then - there are all sorts of possibilities from people practically worshipping Jack to big business buying the blood.

Have to say, I love the way they keep moving the target everytime we think we know who or what the badguy is - plus it was really sneaky to show an alien then have it not be the badguy. (Still possible it could be involved, I suppose but maybe just as a mind-controller). I like the idea of not knowing more than the characters.

Away from Jack and Gwen in the car, some of it had good pace to it.

I felt sorry for Angelo. Homosexuality was frowned upon in those days, and he found someone, even though he felt guilty, that he could love and love to be with, then this amazing man turned out to be something different, scary, beyond his comprehension.

The torture was just horrible, seeing a crowd of people wanting to hurt someone so much, I felt sickened.

I don't know if the three "triangle" men "got to" Angelo after Jack had left him. Did Jack leave something on the roof? I shall have to look again on iplayer.

I have found more to type about this episode. :) However, the ending seemed to lack substance. Who were the people in the car? I want to see next week what happened to Angelo.

From the trailer at the end - seeing the paedophile - I do not want to see what he does to that simpering woman

My vote this time .... thinking BRB ...

Edit - voted average (poor last week). I thought awful at one time, but then decided average.

The flashback stuff seemed excessively drawn out to me, the TV equivalent of writing in big letters to fill more pages. Also the music was massively cheesy.
