Does anyone here like Monkey Majik? Some people might not count them as J-pop as the singers are Canadian but they make good music in their own right! I especially love Blaise, he has an amazing and unique voice :) They sing in both Japanese and English which I really like as the words fit more in one language than another (because of this I was rather disappointed when they brought out the 'English Best' album!)

Change (with the Yoshida Kyoudai on shamisen) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc4AkEC_UWU

    Nijiiro no Sakana http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO-atnH-ztk

A single from their newest album: Headlight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_uOPWO_8K8

My favourite song has to be Hero but I can't find the full length PV at the moment, it send shivers down my spine! Some of the songs are quite different from each other but they all have that Monkey feel to them :)
My favourite albums have to be Eastview and Somewhere Out There. Blaise and Maynard have also released some quality solo albums!

Oh sorry aha, yeah they are awesome. See none of my family/friends likes or has heard cpop and they all think its weird that I like it, so that's why I kind of assume the same with others. My family who are south asian and so they think bollywood music is great. You can read the first post to see how much I "love" bollywood music.

Are you into any taiwanese drama's?

Oh and if you're a fan of SJM and tvxq then you should check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5vqttPxjwE&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I haven't watched any taiwanese dramas for a while now. The last one I saw was "Autumn's Concerto" which starred Vanness Wu, and I loved it so much.

One of my favorite dramas though is "Meteor Garden". It sparked a K-pop like craze around Asia during this time and they even created a boyband featuring the actors from this show called "F4" which disbanded now, but most of the members are having great solo careers now :D

That mash-up is great. Deffo gonna download it and put it on my iPod soon :D

Henry is amazing. He should be part of the main Super Junior group. SJM's new album is great, they have some really great songs on there. And I agree aha, typical SJ video :p

HanGeng's second solo album sounds great as well. Well the songs that are out so far sound great.

I have heard of Faye Wong, haven't heard any of her music though. Thanks for the links, ill check them out.

What did people think of SNSD's comeback?

Lot's of people seem to hate it but I love it, I find it fresh and creative, and am glad they're trying something different.

As you know im a huge fan of fahrenheit so I love the KO series, also a fan of SHE and so I love the taiwanese version of Hana Kimi, tbh I could write a whole essay on dramas I like. :p

@adzpower, I have to say it wasn't what I was expecting from them, but I agree, its good to see something new and fresh.

Yeah. Taiwanese dramas are great, as are Korean dramas. I'm definitely gonna have to catch up on those while I'm on my summer break this year :D

I was initially a bit thrown off by the music, especially the beat change in the middle, but after a few more listens, I actually love it now :D

Not strictly Asian but on the soundtrack to an Asian film - the Korean actioner Shiri:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f95xV3oI_Uk This is such a sad beautiful song  If you've seen the movie its even sadder :(

Jimmy Lin - No Regrets/I Don't Regret (?) - Found this was used in a HK TV series that even has David Chiang (of Shaw Bros. fame) in it :) A good pop/rock song.

I like them too :) Oh and if you haven't seen Hana Kimi you have to watch it aha. it has Wu Chun and Jiro Wang of fahrenheit as well as Ella of SHE and a few others like Danson Tang and A Chord.

Speaking of AChord i like his music but not a fan of what he's done recently if you know what i mean.

@grimtales. I like the second link.

Does anyone know Faye Wong? I became aware of her thanks to Chungking Express :)

She's done some really nice songs like:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VezLrO1Z3yU - No Regrets

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSP2xhNkrSc - Undercurrent, Beautiful piano tune

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDGMU6sdVBE - Final Fantasy 8 theme

I got a CD of her in a charity shop. Can't understand any of it because the songs are mainly in Mandarin and a couple in Cantonese and the sleeve notes are in Chinese. Still good stuff though.

I like Tata Young (from Thailand), she's done a few albums in English and some in Thai.

I like Thrumphis Kingdom (I think that's how you spell it) and Thaitainium, both from Thailand.

I like SES (three girls, two from South Korea and one from Japan). Dreams Come True is a good number, they recorded it in English and Korean.

I like Kyu Sakamoto, a Japanese crooner who was big in the sixties.

Check these people out, they're great! Anyone else know of them?

Sort of related to K-pop this post lol.

I've been watching season 1 of Family Outing and now think I am in love with Lee Hyori. She looks absolutely stunning all the time and is one of the funniest cast members. The love-hate thing she has with Kim Jong-kook is hilarious, I'm guessing the two had hooked up at some point. Still not a big fan of her music though tbh.

Daesung is pretty lovable as well. So much so that its a shame he does not do more variety shows but I can understand after his car accident and his schedule with BigBang. If any of the Running Man cast were to leave he would be a great replacement though. As would Lee Hyori, I think both have been pretty much forgiven for their scandals now as well.

Theres episodes floating around on various streaming sites, so worth a look if you have not seen it. Heard season 2 sucks which is a shame.

amazing thread OP! Adore K-Pop, J-Pop and T-Pop.

Very excited for 2Yoon, Hyuna does literally everything in 4Minute so it's nice to see the other girls get a turn.

I agree, I think double yoon was a great idea.

Theres so many idols in Asian music in dramas so this would be a good place for discussion of them as you say but Family Outing and Running Man are what we would call here reality shows. They are known in Korea as variety shows but alot are more like, say I'm a Celeb.... or The Amazing Race. They are scripted abit tbh but they are alot of fun. The guy in the yellow suit in the Gangnam Style video is Yoo Jae-Seok he is the king of these type of shows and talk shows in general in Korea. He is known as the nations favourite MC [tv presenter].

Running Man is the top show on tv there atm in the genre. Its a mix of a regular cast of 7 comedians, actors and singers plus special guests each week. Heres a highlight vid i found on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cpf5xoeQxv0

Most of the top Korean idols and actors have been on it including SNSD, BigBang, Shinhwa etc. Its a good place to start with Korean variety shows and its a ton of fun. Much more light hearted and funny than our reality shows over here tbh. Yoo Jae-Seok is very, very funny as well, his quick wit and self depreciating humor translates very well in eng subs and the whole cast is very likeable. Its as much about their relations too each other as the show in general with tons of in jokes.

Awesome, ill definitely check it out. Im a huge fan if the taiwanese entertainment show 100%entertainment which is hosted by Show Luo and Alien Huang and others as well. As you can probably guess from the title its an entertainment/talk show. Quite a lot of famous acts have been on it an the hosts are always amazing.

I have yo agree when you say that asian tv shows are much better than the ones here. There's just something about them. The sad thing is though that fir taiwanese tv there is less and less English subbers. Sucks really but like ive mentioned I hope to learn mandarin soon so hopefully within time i'll be able to do away with english subs.

Could Psy be the international breakthrough that J-pop, K-pop and C-pop have been needing to get worldwide recognition?

I've been loving this stuff for years and I don't believe it's ever had the recognition it's deserved.

Me too, i actually was listening to Psy's new album when gangnam style came on my facebook page. I was seriously like wtf! Because none of my friends are into kpop i found it really weird that everyone was posting it.

I think a few more people will start listening to asian music but based on the majority of reactions it's people who just like that one song because of the beat/silliness factor and they'd probably never listen to another asian song seriously. It seems Psy is a one hit wonder/viral trend among my friends and thats it.

PSY could be the cross over act who brings more Asian acts into the US/world markets. I know personally friends of mine who have shown no interest before suddenly start asking me about 2NE1, BigBang, SNSD etc recently. When before they would not have cared less. He is kind of the gate way drug to kpop tbh lol.

I could see another top Korean act score a hit in the US. 2NE1 or BigBang have the most potential from what I can tell. They have already built up a decent fanbase internationally in the west. Girls Generation for however hard they try and plus having native English speakers in Tiffany and Jessica I still can't see it.

Perfume and EXILE from jpop I have always thought as having a shot too. Tons of talent, incredible dancing and some fantastic songs. AKB48 are just too.... well I don't want to diss them but can just see a ton of controversy with them. People will just see them as a ton of school girls dancing about for a bunch of weirdo fans.

jabbamk1 I'll have a look on youtube and dailymotion for that show 100% Entertainment. kshownow.net are great for any of the latest Korean variety shows. They have links and dl links in their forums for all the Korean latest stuff.

So i watched the running man video and a few others and i love it :P So much more entertaining then other things i've watched :P I feel a bit silly recommending 100% entertainment when you recommend that. (Although i still love the show). I have plans to start watching Korean drama's soon so i will probably have a look for more running man episodes then.

But yeh check out 100% entertainment. It's a bit more talk/interview compared to running man tbh. But it is super funny as well once you know the hosts. Only problem like i said is english subs. You'll be hard pressed to find full episodes that have been subbed anymore.

Has anyone heard of Cross Gene? They're a rookie group that debuted in Korea last year and I just found a Japanese version of their mini album on itunes and was debating whether to buy it or not, their songs sound so catchy....
