Another poor rating for BBC at 9pm Monday - its a real weak spot in their schedule.

A weak spot perhaps but possible that they didn't want to put anything decent up against Doc Martin. Going on DM's previous performance any drama was going to struggle against it.

Additionally it gives ITV something less to moan about. If the BBC had put a ratings grabber at 9pm, I am sure a certain vocal voice at ITV would have mumbled about the mighty BBC. ;-)

That particular newspaper should be renamed The Spin ;)

    * The use of the word newspaper is of course dubious*

It's an odd article as on the one hand they're spinning in favour of XF, but then they haven't even bothered to include +1. XF peaked at 9.3m including +1.

I hope that it is spelt correctly. A lot of the Maley Dale articles appear to be typed in an angry hurry, with no proof reading at all. It does make them more amusing to read I guess.

Are The Sun actually getting behind TXF now then ?

TV Times next time page for the week of 17-23 Oct has Fargo, The Last Kingdom and a Jonathon Ross James Bond Special (thought he did that already or am I thinking of something else).

You don't suppose C4 will put Homeland and Fargo together do you at 9/10Pm?

The Sun this morning is claiming that XFactor beat strictly in the ratings on sunday because its peak was 700K more than Strictly's average. Someone at the Sun seems very confused by ratings heh.

Ross did a BBC documentary about the history of Pinewood studios and made a feeble attempt to emulate Bond. Like all Ross documentaries it was mainly about...Jonathan Ross.

I doubt the hacks at the sun would even know what +1 is. They probably think it is some they bring along to a dinner party? :D

They seem obsessed with particularly thick footballers.

Why do the BBC, particulary ITV and Sky try to make celebrities out of footballers? The thing is, they're not that popular outside of the pitch.

It was the Inside Soap Awards last night which might have something to do with the delay.

Proof positive that Ross has no shame. That shocking POS earlier this year on BBC2 was an appalling piece of vanity film-making and that somebody (ITV?) subsequently commissioned him to make this new one just shows they're clueless, whichever channel it is!

TV and Satellite for next week promote (for the week after) The Muppets on Sky, American Horror Story: Hotel (with Kathy Bates) on Fox and Jessica Jones - the new Netflix superheroine drama with Krysten Ritter and David Tennant as the baddy. Though that is billed as November.

Radio Times has an interview with the commissioning head at Netflix.

It describes why the BBC could not compete with them to purchase the hoped for 6 x 10 series of The Crown - starring Matt Smith as Prince Phillip and telling the story of the Queen's reign (played by Claire Foy). First series coming to Netflix in 2016.

Other details about how they commissioned House of Cards and other shows such as Orange is the New Black and Sense8.

Their first original movie - Beasts of No Nation - starring Idris Elba as an African warlord - is on from 16 October.

AKA Jessica Jones (the title apparently of the one mentioned in my post above) is out from 20 November.

The Get Down - a musical drama set in 1970s New York about the birth of hip hop. (2016)

And also discusses the commissioning of things like the 12 new episodes of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror.

Plus they will premier the sequel to the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in March 2016 at the same time as it is released into cinemas - which is apparently causing some concerns amongst the movie moguls as to the future of cinema releases.

Netflix are certainly looking forward and it must be one reason that the BBC are planning on line ventures instead of linear channels.

All of these events are going to force down ratings levels for live mainstream channels even further. Forget Orange is the New Black. For hit TV dramas 4 million might be the new 7 million.

One of the great unsolved mysteries of our time is why broadcasters continue to employ Ross in any capacity whatsoever. His programmes enjoy low ratings and are always an exercise in self-promotion. I recall a dreadful one he did with the few surviving cast members of Dad's Army. The insincerity of his claim he was a fan shone through.

Nothing amongst that lot would make that excited to get Netflix.

Must be galling for someone with his ego to be eclipsed by his wife in terms of talent, relevance and cred.

Only because they put on shite in the slot. Silent Witness against Broadchurch proved that its the choice of programme for that slot rather than the slot itself. Why did anyone at the BBC believe Wayne Rooney was mass appeal? Tuesday at 10.35pm would have been better for this documentary.
