I was reading through a thread on another well known website called reddit. The thread was titled "Things you have to read before you die" someone posted a link to a short story called 'The Egg' I have read through it and although I identify as an atheist, I was intrigued by it. In fact, it has caused some doubt within me. I'll leave it here and would like your opinion on it please.

The Egg

Thanks :)

Mildly interesting I suppose, but it's basically a typical New Age hodge podge of Eastern ideas.

I don't think they have many grammar schools in America? Possibly not enough of them for US readers to readily understand what is implied by "Some vague authority figure, maybe. More of a grammar school teacher than the almighty." I could very well be mistaken.

Being British I was okay with the grammar school reference but was thrown by the trucks. All the cross culture had me wondering where I was, nevermind that poor sucker in the Egg story. I would have grabbed God by his lapels and asked "Forget what year it is and what sex I am, just where the hell am I?", and imagine where that would have got me/gotten me.

I'd suggest researching near death experiences (NDEs) using Google as the next step and borrowing books and e-books from your local library service about NDEs. I think you'll find them interesting, Scotty2012. :)

It's really caused you to doubt your athiesim and reconsider the fact there is a god? I'm not knocking you, I'm just surprised that's all.

I'm athiest, the story makes me feel no different. It's just a story after all. If I'm honest, the moment the word 'god' was mentioned, I switched off a bit and struggled to the end.
