Ive been Quoted £110.00 for mine  that's £13,200.00 Per hour !!!
That's presumably the callout charge to an LCD/Plasma?, as it's a design fault I would suggest getting in touch with where you got the set from, and/or Sony.
As for your imagined 'hourly rate' you're not considering travelling time, or the time spent contacting Sony, and programming memory sticks!.
Unfortunately, I have no information on this matter at present. We are
looking into this with our technical department, however no details have
been released.
It is with regret that we have no further information at this time.

Dear Sony
I recently got a KDLS40 A12U TV and I am having problems with a possible
bug with Hi Def material particularly with Sky HD.
The fault seems to be that on the HDMI input. Component, 1080i video
signals intermittently blanks out for a few seconds and this happens
about 10 times per evening and also effects SKY Plus recordings
When the fault occurs, the video blanks out and after a second or two,
reappears with "AV4 1080i" in the top-left of the screen - as if you'd
pulled the cable in and out quickly.
My TV was purchased in February and is still under warranty but I am
unhappy with this fault and I want to know what to do with it?
*Here is a link with the bug explained on 2 websites
It probably doesn't help that Sony have closed much of their UK operation, and farmed it out to the cheapest bidder? - with many of the support staff losing their jobs!.
I posted a technical bulletin earlier in the thread, you might try quoting their reference number off of that?.
Sorry! - just noticed your model number, it's NOT one listed on the technical bulletin.
Does this fault occur on ALL channels?, or just specific ones?, we've got a customer with a Sony getting intermittent HDCP errors ONLY on ITV1?. Presumably the forthcoming HD box update will address the problem? - there have been posts on these foprums suggesting it's imminent?.
One other problem I am having with this set also...
When I watch Sky Sports and there is text running along the bottom of the screen it seems to go all distorted. Its almost like the picture can't keep up with the text.
I have also found this happening with channels like ITV2 where the picture seems to almost go into a very slight drag or slow motion from time to time.
i cant believe that there are so many of us having this problem but it would appear that unless i am very much mistaken nobody has yet recieved a satisfactory explanation from sony let alone a fix for it,
has any body "fixed" it yet,
please advise as it is doing my head in, i got the set in april, obviously before the HD boxes were released and obviously before any of us were aware of the picture blanking problem, ive been on to sony and they didnt want to know, put me in contact with the local service center, told them the problem a week ago and ive not heard a dicky bird since,
It's even harder for a lot of us that are out of waranty !!
It seems extreme but a 1 min job to fix my panel....I have been quoted by my local approved sony repair centre that:-
£60 to collect panel.....
They need it for 2-3 days
£50 min for installing the update....
COME ON SONY.... put a software upgrade on the net, the panels were faulty when released, otherwise the new ones would be ok....... I am not paying for an inherent problem to be resolved !!!!!

Try getting on to Sony about it, or (probably better?) get on to the dealer you bought it from - all your legal rights are against the dealer, and NOT Sony.
If the set has a design error, then this is covered under the sale of goods act, and the dealer is resposible for sorting it out - and it's up to THEM to deal with Sony.
As for the charges?, you try checking plumbers charges!.
or (probably better?) get on to the dealer you bought it from - all your legal rights are against the dealer, and NOT Sony.
I would love to get in touch with the dealer, the 'Sony Centre' in Norwich i bought it from has closed Down ??
where does that leave me ???
Any suggestions ??
I'll have to ring Sony again....
I understand what you mean about the charges Nigel i know the repair centres have to make a living...the same as the rest of us.... It's not the Money.... It's the principal.... Sony should sort it !!

They probably will - particularly as you bought it from a "Sony Centre" - I'm never sure if they are connected to Sony or not?, but they are certainly authorised by Sony to use the name!.
The dealer ceasing trading though does leave you somewhat in the lurch?, as your legal rights were against them - although if they have gone bust your rights may now move to Sony UK?. I would suggest talking to Trading Standards about it.
The problem is now that you probably aren't even speaking to 'Sony', but to a call centre run by a third party.
i have just sent a comprehensive email to my local sony service center explaing the problem with as much detailed information as i can, rather than to keep on ringing up, i have found the service center managers name and email address and put the ball firmly in his court, i have provided a link to this posting so they can not tell me again that nobody else has this problem, i bought my set in april this year and the local dealer has gone into recievership so i am having the same frustrations as dean 1474, has anybody had any specific help or advice on this or are we just all being fobbed off that the problem does not exist ???
Surely it would be easier (and cheaper) to update over the air as the tvs are capable of receiving software updates that way.
Again, you are thinking of FREEVIEW updates, NOT updates to the sets own software.
In any case, this assumes the set needs an update?, his set is an LCD, the updated set in this thread was a Plasma set. There doesn't appear to be any technical bulletins or software updates about this problem for the LCD in question? (nor any similar complaints?).
First thing is to determine if it's the set, or the HD box, as the HD box is under guarantee get Sky to replace it and see if that helps?.
there are at least three of us with bravia kdls sets in this thread nigel saying we have the problem, its nothing to do with the sky hd box, also kufdam suggests taking a view at this thread where others with the same lcd set are having problems, all documented in this same thread, we want help not smart unfounded comments please
At present, it is not clear from our investigation if the set is
actually at fault. This might also be related to Sky's HD box. I can
give you an update when we know more if you would like.
Alternatively, you may wish to contact your dealer for further advice if
you would prefer.

Sorry for the delay in replying, been abroad for a week and no computer. In reply to loweman; no I am not using HDMI. (Even if I wanted to!) My TV only supports component, kindly read back through this thread!! As there is still quite a bit of interest in this I'll call my local Sony center in the morning and, if possible, post the information they got before they did the update. I can imagine some places fobbing people off as it involved some digging around on my local dealers part with no reward. Thing is they know I live half a mile away and wouldn't let it drop!!! Again watch this space...
hi all, my local dealer/service center got back to me after i had supplied them with this thread and also this thread http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=348999, they have been onto sony who now say that they are aware of the problem and are insinuating that the fault could lie with Sky HD boxes, they are supposedly working with sky on trying to find a firmware/software update that should solve the issue, he has a case number now with sony and will keep me posted on developments though he advises me not to hold my breath.......
what about the fact that this fault has been reported by people using upscale dvd players. Surely this points the finger at the TV and not the Sky HD box?
This information ONLY applies to the MRX1 range of Sony Televisions. I have the KDL-L32MRX1 32" LCD television which only supports Component and has NO HDMI input.
As stated earlier the "picture blanking" fault whilst using the Component Input (No. 4 Input) was fixed using a software update uploaded via sony memory stick inserted in the front of the separate tuner box.
I've spoken to my local Sony Service Center and the Service Bulletin reference number is: 05TV233. The serial numbers affected are (and these are the serial numbers on the back of the tuner box and not the panel itself):
MBD (32") : 4000001-4007413
MBT (42") : 4000001-4021769
As a quick aside they currently knew of no fault affecting the Bravia range using HDMI or Component.
They suggested that anyone else experiencing this problem with an older MRX1 display should seek an authorised Sony Service Center (not all Sony Centers have a Service Dept.)
Do hope this info helps some people, I know it was bugging me since I started using the component feed with HD.
Kind regards...
PS Note for Nigel Goodwin, I noticed that your earlier posting had the bulletin 05TV232. Maybe you could post 05TV233 in its entirety?
SYMPTOM
• Echo in the speakers resulting from time difference.
• Intermittent video blanking when receiving a YUV component video signal from a DVD player via the AV4 input.
SOLUTION
Upgrade the main software as explained below.
• Take a Memory Stick and check whether the root directory contains the "MEMSTICK.IND" file.
• Create the directory and subdirectory "MSSONY/TV" and copy the attached "MSHI1350.SDU" file to it.
Caution, make sure there is only one SDU file in this directory.
• Power on (the display panel should be on).
• Insert the Memory Stick. The Hitachi main controller (Flash IC) will be programmed automatically in
approximately one minute. During this time, the power LED is blinking (1 sec ON, 1 sec OFF).
• After the upgrading has completed, remove the Memory Stick. The system will restart automatically. If the
upgrading has finished successfully, the power LED will be blinking three times (0.3 sec ON, 0.3 sec OFF,
2 sec resting) whereas the Memory Stick access LED will be blinking slowly (0.8 sec ON, 1.5 sec OFF).
NOTE
The upgrading by means of the Memory Stick will only be successful if the main software is in good working
condition. If the upgrading process fails at some point, the main software will no longer work. In this case, it will be
necessary to disconnect the AC cable and to reconnect it while using a slim stick to press the forced power switch
S5301 accessible through a hole beneath the [AV MOUSE] connector.

This proved to be a real pain (card pairing fault, loss of channels) see Card pairing threads
Anyway now that this is working I can sit back and enjoy
well until the picture goes off
The fault seems to be that on the HDMI input, 1080i video
signals intermittently blanks out for a few seconds and this may happen a couple of times per evening.
Because it has happened during a playback I 'rewound' to see if it happened again (at the same place) but it didn't, the picture remained on
When the fault occurs, the video blanks out and after a second or two, reappears with:-
"HDMI 6 1080i/50" in the top-left of the screen
I called Sony (Customer information centre 08705 111 999) spoke to a rather obnoxious man who said it could not be the TV at fault but the Sky Box
The twit even said don't believe what you read on Web sites
When I rang Sky Tech Help he said that my TV was on the list and details had been passed to Sony and they were investigating.
How can I get it fix if Sony deny the problem exists
NB: The Sony centre in Bluewater, where I purchased were also unaware of the problem, they gave me the Sony number
this fault was first picked up at the end of May by early Sky HD adopters including myself. Sony certainly have had it reported to them by numerous people (i have a case reference number). This thread has been hijacked by another fault which is fixed by a memory stick update (the thead starts out with the fault you are talking about). Totally unrelated problems.
People have reported the same fault using upscale dvd players which output at 1080i through HDMI as well. As HDMI is a standard, if the Sky box was at fault we would have loads of fault reports across a big range of TVs. As it seems limited to certain Sony TVs then it points the finger firmly at Sony. I bought mine in February. If progress for a fix doesnt happen soon, I will be writing to my retailer quoting the Sale of Goods Act and the inherent fault with the set when purchased. Given we are not talking about a £100 TV here, it is serious business.
