I am sorry to post here with the news that Meow – the biggest cat in the world (2st 9lbs) - has passed on shortly after receiving nationwide publicity in the USA over his attempts to slim.

Metro reports (on the link below) that the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society of New Mexico bought Meow a scratching post with a carpeted ring attached but he couldn't even get his head through . According to Metro, Meow, did, however, manage to walk up the stairs in search of affection :D.

Rest In Peace Meow.

I read about the cat in the papers a few weeks ago.

Sorry but some people, elderly or not should not have pets if they don`t know how to take care of them properly - the poor cat was only 2years old :(

This is why it is so important to feed your pets the proper diet.

The largest domestic cats are Maine Coons (I have 2 :D ) and they used to judge them by weight for record breaking purposes. The rules had to be changed due to stupid owners over feeding their cat  Now they judge them by length which is much more sensible. Here is the current champ I think

    Yes it is.

The sad thing is that it died from an obesity related problem.
If it weren't so fat, may well still be alive.

The owners were guilty of ill-treating the animal, end of. To get that much food inside a cat within 2 years, they must have been shovelling it in.

Moral of the story is, if Granny's got Alzheimer's, don't let her keep a cat. It won't end well.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society of New Mexico obviously did all they could for him. I had hoped that he would have lived and slimmed down.

The previous owners should be done for animal cruelty.

    Spot on!

And it is sad that an animal is abused in this way -- even if the owners' intentions were founded in bizarre affection for the cat.
