A form of Malachite used to treat various fungal infections in fish has been banned in most countrys due to its carsenagenic qualitys.

Never understood the appeal of Linux -- but then I rely on some industry-standard apps to get my work done. There are no Linux versions of these.

I feel that Linux is for the tinkerer -- not necessarily for your average family computer.

I rely on some industry-standard Linux apps to get my work done, and it's nice having the same look and feel at home. :)

I don't blame you for not being a GIMP fan, it does my head in.

Sadly (perhaps), there isn't a great call for graphic designers who know The Gimp inside out. :)

My Sony Ericsson W800i shipping sticker adorns the right side of my 2nd monitor at work.

As for stuff everyone actually has on their PC, the first things I would say are:

    Windows XP [YES]
    Winamp [YES]
Some version of MS Office/Word [YES; Office 2003]
MSN Messenger [YES; but not the latest version]
Adobe Photoshop (Funny considering it costs £££ yet everyone seems to have it nowadays  ) [No, but I have PSP 7]
Adobe [Acrobat] Reader [The proper (yet ageing) version of Acrobat, Yes, Reader, no]
And i'm sure a lot of people have some form of Spyware on their PC [No, no crap whatsorever]

Things everyone should have on their PC:
Google Earth & Desktop [I have Earth but not Desktop; I don't fancy some external company poking around in my files]
Mozilla Firefox (Admit it!) [Yes, but I rarely use it; takes far too long to start up plus IE does what it says on the tin and is quick to open]
If you dont want to pay for Anti virus: Grisoft AVG Free Edition [No, I don't have AVG]

Google Earth is quite good but I can't see my home from the air because it's just a few metres out of range of the hi-res photo coverage.

Personally I wouldn't consider Firefox and Google Earth things that people should have on their PC. Only if you really have a use for it, then have it, but if not there's no point in clogging up your HD with programs you don't want/need or use.

As to what I have on my computer - a shed load of paper, some CDs and a mobile phone. On my screen I have some CDs that I play often placed sunny side up (bad I know but I can't find the boxes).

    Trillian
    Google Earth
    MS Office 2003
    Adobe Photoshop
    Firefox
    iTunes
    Soulseek
    EphPod
    Norton

I think that's the basics but there is much much more!

Um... why not? Firefox is infintely better than IE. I hardly even open IE now. The only reason I have it on the PC still is for some sites that require it, which are getting fewer and fewer...

Wayyy too tired to come up with a witty reply to the Firefox security stuff, so I'll just *chuckle* and use their own website against them:
    http://secunia.com/search/?search=internet+explorer
    What's that? 176 security advisories? ;) 110 more than Firefox? ;)

Better go now, I'm at the stage where my eyes are making the monitor look HUGE in my brain and this is all seeming like a bad dream. Hate being this tired :|
