Accurate recording
With my tests on Accurate recording being a complete failure, I emailed the BBC with my results. Their response is below;
The enhanced data is being broadcast by the BBC from all transmitters and
although there can always be problems with any data, I'm a little surprised
at you never perceiving a change to the times. Although your email implies
you are using the feature correctly, do please double check and if problem
persists, please make the manufacturer aware.
That's pretty much what I expected they would say. I would be a bit more accepting if I could see it work at least intermittently. Every recording I've tried has recorded for the scheduled time and not the actual broadcast time.
I'll try a few more times over the weekend but generally I'm using padding now.

I was thinking it would be handy if a number of people could all attempt to record the same programme "accurately".
I would suggest tonight's Eastenders as that is usually slightly off schedule. Ideally we would have a number of people in different locations, some with 9200TB, some powered on and some in standby.
Would anyone be able to do this? I will try with mine (9200T, Crystal Palace, machine powered on) and let you know what happens.
I'm wondering if the Now/Next information used to trigger accurate recording does not actually update the EPG/ current programme information we see.
Did the Hummy record all of the programme?
Can you confirm what machine you have and what transmitter you are on (if you know).
It sounds like this may have been a real accurate recording.
I'm in Swansea so I presume I'm using Kilvey Hill
The recording seems to have stopped once the EPG updated to include the news special as 1130-1145, instead of Car Booty at 1130.
Have set cash in the attic to record at 12:15 and news at 1:00. Will see what has happened when I get back from the shops!
Well that didn't turn out to be very exciting after all.
The instant recording stopped just before 12:15, just after the special news programme had finished. It showed as "Car Booty" in the recordings list. Car Booty ties in with the Radio Times listing. At just after 12:00 the EPG had been showing that Cash in the Attic was running.
Cash in the Attic recorded as scheduled from 12:15 until 1:00pm and the programme recorded from beginning to end.
I had expected the News at 1pm to be extended, but that wasn't the case. My recording started at 1:00 and finished at 1:29:57. The start and end of the news were clipped by a few seconds.
Clearly 1.00.15 is as capable as any other stb of accurate recording. On time scheduling would have chopped the end off so it's a thumbs up from me.
I also recorded last nights Eastenders with accurate recording but it recorded until 20:00. Am I missing something?
I have a machine bought with v10 upgraded to v15. I have the start and end padding set to On Time. I get Freeview from Crystal Palace.
Can you confirm what machine you are using. Also is there anything else I need to do to get accurate recording to work?
Thats why im gonna continue to use auto padding with adding an extra minute to schedule list for consecutive recordings on different channels until the time comes, if and when AR works as it should with no loss of seconds/minutes from any programe.
I thought it started 2 seconds late and ended 2 seconds early.
i.e. it would record 8:00:02 - 8:29:58
The recordings list shows this as 8:00 - 8:29, but when you play the recording you can see the complete times on the play bar.
Oh! I see. Thanks for pointing that out.
Ive never bothered looking at the seconds, just the time in the whats recorded list.
Still though, use padding and dont lose any seconds.
1) Is "Accurate Recording" functioning correctly in upgraded 9200T as opposed to off the shelf 9200TB/TS.
2) Is the meta data provided by the broadcasters correct.
To check the first we need an upgraded old 9200T and a new 9200TB or 9200TS to record the same progamme from a BBC channel. (Pref BBC1 most likely to use the correct meta data/now & next.) . If both machines are implementing the software in the same way then the result should be identical.
For the second we need to open this thread up to other PVR owners who have Freeview Playback Group 1 compatible software on their boxes.
Boxes I think currently implement "Accurate Recording" are:-
Sony 8??
Daewoo
Digihome/Asda/Goodmans - Vastel Clones (Software version dependent)
We can then compare results recording the same program on the same channel as above. All machines should be trigged to record by the same flag so I would expect them to start within a couple of seconds of each other.
If MarcDavis is reading this he may be able to clarify as I think he owns at least two of the above PVR in addition to his Hummy
Are they not exactly the same machine except one has a nice new black casing?
If they are then they should act in the same way.
Saying that though everybody experienced different things with the previous firmwares, so maybe the same applies here too. Some will work with AR and some don't.
Yes it is working. You can easily see the recorder respond to the change in Now/Next by constantly flipping up the Now/Next banner on your TV to see when it changes. My upgraded 9200 starts and stops at the precise moment the program becomes the Now item. Coronation Street test showed it started at about 30 seconds past 7:30 at the precise moment Now and Next changed to Coronation Street. I.E I saw the Humax clock click over to 7:30 but it didn't start to record for half a minute when the Now/Next changed, this happened to be dead on the start of Coronation Street. You'd like to think ITV would get it accurate at least for that program and they appeared to. The Now/Next data didn't update for the Bill though quickly enough so the first 10 seconds were missed as it was still saying Coronation Street.
If you constantly view the Now and Next at close to when the program starts you can see in most cases Now and Next simply changes with the time, so it would look like it isn't working.

This wasn't todays one.

1/ Yes = upgraded old 9200t hardware version 1.0
End times on recordings are variable Ie +2 mins / + 4 mins etc and so far programs are "encapsulated" in the extended recording window.
2/ the $64000 question. If the broadcaster gets the data correct the 9200t will adjust accordingly. So far so good.
North of scotland - Durris if that is relevant.
I cant see it ending on time.
I may try it myself, just to see as im curious.
My wife wont be too happy if it fails to record the end of it though.
I had my first "accurate" recording today.
Set the Hummy (upgraded 9200T) to record Eastenders tonight at 8:00 - 8:30.
It recorded 8:00 - 8:31:30. This included part of a trailer at the start and end but got all of the programme (which did run after 8:30)
I was starting to doubt whether this feature worked for me.
I didn't know if it was the EPG data, the software, my Hummy or what. Just glad to finally see it working.
Don't know if I'll stick with it though. Auto-padding seems more reliable, but I might try it for a few days.
says 2hrs 4mins 59secs
Starts with the end of the Lottery and ends with the credits
apparantly started at 22:50 until 00:54 on 27/06 lasting 124 mins - haven't yet watched it though - but thought I would post.
Have scheduled Diana concert to record as suggested by someone.
