Has anyone noticed....the opening animated titles are now PIXILATED !!
Just after the train has moved on we have a, I presume gay wedding.....two blokes in blue and yellow suits. Yellow bloke is pixed (Clegg ?) then they throw flowers caught by two or three more, one in Red pixed (Milliband ?) two three others in group pixed too. IS THIS PC GONE MAD
PS thought R Peston "ok".............worst this series in my 'umble opinion, "Harry Potter".
PPS,its Pixed on Iplayer too..................
Ha, I hadn't noticed that! That's a bit odd. I thought it might have been a reference to Nick and Ed resigning (as they were only pixellated this week), but that doesn't explain why Natalie Bennett and Leanne Wood are pixellated also?
I watched the extended version earlier, it improved on second viewing, I still thought Peston was good, Roisin was the better of the guests - in fact the american bloke could have been a tub of lard for all his input (no idea who he is, cue a load of posts berating me for that) but he seemed happy enough to be there and Paul and Ian were their usual wonderful selves.
Please don't let this thread fall down the old 'my opinion is more valid than anyone else's, how could anyone not agree with me' trap.
Pretty poor show all round. Conaty was probably the best but that's not saying much.
Delaney seems to be famous for funny tweets. He hasn't really made the jump to panel shows from what i've seen of him.
I too saw this episode being recorded and although Peston fluffed a few lines, he recovered quickly and there were hardly any retakes at the end. Paul Merton and Ian Hislop were also very nice towards him and told him not to worry and that he was fine. Paul said Neil Kinnock was the worst and said it was if he didn't trust any of the words on the autocue, including his own name.
I think I am fairly clued up and very politically aware but I didn't recognise the presenter. I rarely watch The News or listen to it on the radio. As was said above, there's now a myriad of ways to keep up with what's going on.
I never know any of the celebrities on celebrity anything.
I thought it wasn't bad this week and I did watch right the way through the extended version without getting too bored.
The News Quiz, on the other hand, was awesome How many of you would have recognised Claus Toksvig, I wonder?
How can you compare recognising Robert Peston to Claus Toksvig. That is bizarre. I would say Peston is as well known to Radio 4 listeners as Sandy Toksvig, but few will know Claus. That is history (and Danish at that).
I know Peston's voice and work on radio but for some reason I thought he was a fatter, balding figure. I think I am mixing him up with another economic / political reporter?

Sandi (with an i ) mentions him quite a bit 😉
I was being a bit tongue in cheek there but back in the day, if you watched Danish telly at all, you would have recognised him. I am a well meaning radio 4 listener against the bomb (and global captalism) but i honestly didn't know who he was. I don't think things are the same now as when Claus Toksvig was around as people can cherry pick where they get there news and I clearly haven't picked Mr Preston. 👀.
if his favourite topic is bankers that could account for it. I know a song about them.

There's no problem in not knowing who Preston is or disliking his appearance on the show but for those of us who have heard of him will be familiar with his distinctive style of delivery which, by the way, I believe he has modified and I think most of us saw no problem after the initial nerves had settled. I saw a group of people having fun with a bit of light hearted micky taking from Paul and Ian. The only weak link IMO was Rob Delaney as he was obviously clueless on British politics.

I wrote earlier, Robert Peston speech is distinctive because he suffers from a stammer and it is a way of controlling the stammer.
I've just watched a recording of the extended programme.
I thought Robert Peston did OK. He was no worse than a lot of the guest presenters they have had. I have seen him many times on the BBC business programmes and new what to expect from him. As for the American guy he may as well not have been there. He was probably the main reason Paul and Roisin won 7-3, or he and Ian lost 3-7.
Just noticed, I should've typed their (with an i ) above.
I don't watch or listen to any 'business' programmes, so that could explain why I didn't recognise the host. It also meant I had no expectations of him. I thought he was fine and the whole atmosphere was quite nicely jovial.
It's always daft to have an American on there who hasn't a clue about English politics. It is a topical news show for goodness sake! I don't know why they do that. Is there a reason?
He doesn't and never has had a stammer. Just because someone has a distinctive voice doesn't mean they have some kind of disorder!
I agree.
A year or so ago, for some inexplicable reason, Eddie Mair on Radio 4's PM got Robert Peston to read a minute of Paddington Bear.
And, he was word perfect. He always is when reading from a script, but that is rare, because most of his contributions are 'expert talking to newsreader' pieces.
I think it is something to do with a very clever person having 20 thoughts all at once, and his problem comes when he is thinking how best to explain something in an ad lib situation. With a script he is no different to anyone else.
Not sure who the bloke on Paul's team is, but he's not very funny and spent half the show talking about cancer. Paul Merton obviously dislikes him as well.
Frank Skinner has carried tonight's show, if they'd used a non comedic host like a newsreader this week, it would probably have been one of the worst shows ever.

Very poor, I hope he was being paid by the word......

John Pienaar?
Maybe Nick Robinson though he's not really fatter, especially after his recent cancer battle.

I've never heard of either of the guests, even after "Googling" them..
Ronson is a writer. He wrote the book The Men Who Stare At Goats which was turned into a film with George Clooney and Ewan McGregor.
She was in Cardinal Burns and Crackanory.
You mean you have the audacity to watch HIGNFY and not know who people are ;-):D
Careful, you will have the thread in uproar again
