Yet more sexual accusations, albeit towards female adults.

Common thread with JS is that prominent powerful people are protected, and not investigated, regardless of whether they might be innocent or guilty.

Piers Morgan is interviewing Esther Rantzen on ITV at the moment. Don't know if he's going to ask her about Savile.

In the interview linked in Saltydog's quote above above he said the same thing and somehow it was never questioned. There are about three remarks which indicate his predilection esp. the one about being discovered in the early hours of the morning with 5 girls in his caravan by the parents of one of them.

It's also of interest to me that he also said he had no favourite singer then to another question no favourite group. Doesn't indicate much interest in the pop scene really, does it?

Why would it be necessarily questioned though? Its not like the term 'Girls' or even 'Young Girls' is one that means underage or is used exclusively to mean underage. While it may be creepy its hardly illegal to have sex with someone say between the ages of 16-21 who will often be referred to as one of those two terms rather than young women.

Its just easy to assume its sinister now due to whats come to light but without that any comments from Saville himself or rumours using such terms could be viewed as not being a concern

And lets be honest people from a certain generation and before refer to every women younger than them as "Young Girl" or "Young lady" and I'm sure we have all seen examples where women in their 30's or 40's are addressed by retirement age men in such terms so its likely it seemed a less unusual choice of phrase than it might today to those under 25.

The Morgan programme is doing about when they first reported child abuse on Esthers's show and the setting up of Childline, so it should be on ITV+1 10.35pm.

Not chipped in on the thread for a while but that, for me, is the 'elephant in the room' and summarizes the culture of the BBC 'back in the day' up until relatively recently. It's the whole 'hiding in plain sight' thingy all over again. People just didn't want to see.

When I was young back in the seventies I was a big David Bowie fan and read everything there was to know about him etc. He had loads and loads of girls throwing themselves at him. But recently I was reading about groupies of the time and one girl's name was mentioned that always seemed to be hanging around Bowie with her other groupie friend and that was American Sable Star. The article gave her age at the time as 13 and so was her friend and thinking back I remember reading at the time she was 13 and I just took it as part and parcel and never seemed to think it was out of the ordinary.
Back then anything seemed to go.

Yeah, it was by no means unique to the BBC.

We've all heard stories of very famous rockstars who refused to go on stage until someone had found them a young groupie.

Happened all the time across society - thankfully it happens a lot less now.

Thanks SBBA. I should have checked Sable out on Wiki before. Did not know she had died. And fairly young.

These were the "Baby Groupies" from early 70's, an unique thing from LA. These groupies, Sable and Lori Maddox were part of that group, but these groupies were NOT the rule. They were a "thing" that lasted about two or three Summers. Of course, there were the one or two odd groupies of early teens later, but there weren't many. People talk as if they were usual, but they were not. Most groupies from then were in the late teens to early twenties. I've read about these "baby groupies", and what I could tell is having sex with a 13 or 14 year old was not "accepted " back then.

People found absurdities to tweet eg

Another corking #Pollard redaction from Horrocks evidence: "I think this is something that is not confidential. [sentence redacted]

It says in the article that when she met Jimmy Page they had to keep things quiet because Lori was underage and didn't want Page to be arrested.
But remembering the seventies they were promiscuous times we were living in. I'm not saying for everyone though.

It says she lost her virginity to David and Angie Bowie at 13. From what I've read, this is not true, but old gossip. She met Bowie later than Jimmy Page, when she was already 14 and Angie was not with him. IIRC, she keeps changing her story whether she lost her virginity with Page or not . I think she did.
