I remember in the early years of the 1970's, the last few series of Till Death Do Us Part along with the Christmas Speciala of that series where shown. They wouldn't dare show a comedy series or Christmas Special like that now.
Ian.
I remember some of the gifts I was particularly happy to recieve:-
Chopper Sprint GT (bought secondhand in 1979. Great bike. Still got it in storage)
A leather football
Guinness Book of Car Facts and Feats
Grandstand Video Sports Centre (That might have been 1980, though)
We had one tv set, with 3 channels available. One record player/radio. Used to look forward to getting the Christmas Radio Times and marking all the programmes and films that were worth watching. Hardly ever watch any tv now.
I'm watching the greatest Xmas songs on Channel 5+1 and wondered, a lot of the Christmas songs we hear again and again and again today, on TV and in the shops, were being made in the 70's, 80's and 90's. So in the 50's, 60's and early 70's, what Christmas songs did they play? if any?
What did boxing day in the 70's consist of? When did shops start opening for sales on the 26th instead of January?
Early/half day closing for shops and none open on Boxing day/New Years Eve/Day either
There'd be the mother of all outrages if it happened now
Not all shops exactically, as Bookmaker shops opened in the 1960's and the 1970's for betting on horse racing on Boxing Day/New Years Eve/Day,, unless those days fell on a Sunday.
