- The Man with the Golden Gun
- Diamonds are Forever
- Quantum of Solace
- Thunderball
- The World is not Enough
.. just behind those are FRWL, DAD and AVTAK.
Octopussy for me. Ludicrous title, and the plot was appalling. Makes me cringe to see Bond dressed up as a clown near the end of the film when he infiltrates the circus act. Pathetic.
Die Another Day*
Quantum of Solace
A View to a Kill
are the worst Bond movies
* It has to be said though, that DAD does have a very intriguing and strong pre-credits sequence, culminating in Bond's abandonment, capture and torture etc in North Korea. Went downhill very quickly from there though.
I agree. DAD's first half was very interesting and possible a shape of things to come, with a more vulnerable Bond - then the rest was atrocious, the CGI surfing and invisible car is crap and the villain was weak.
Probably a tie between Thunderball and Diamonds are Forever. I can handle Die Another Die because I at least can enjoy how everything is so OTT. What I can't handle is a mediocre and boring movie. That underwater scene in Thunderball for example seemed to go on forever.
Would I be correct in thinking that Thunderball was the film that had scenes of divers fighting underwater.
It's quite a different idea on paper, and quite memorable, but I'm not sure that divers fighting underwater works so well. It's almost like watching people fight in slow motion.

That's the one, a very long underwater harpoon fight.
everything after tim dalton (who wasn't great!). After that it was all violence with no saving tongue in cheek humour. Even Skyfall - supposed franchise rescue flowing 2 disasters - is quite poor.
I am going to say it, because the last 30-40 minutes totally ruined a very good film and that was Skyfall.
Its interesting how many people think this - for me the Scotland section saves the film which up until this point is a utterly average CGI infested "generic" thriller in the modern style.
I'd say Moonraker just because of the number of cringeworthy moments (Gondola Hovercraft, Jaws and Dolly, Bond goes into space!). Die Another Day is just behind it though, an awful film.
Octopussy is one of those films that you don't think about ranking too high when thinking about stuff like this, but when you actually watch it, it is a lot better than you think.
Agree that Moonraker is pretty dire, aside from a few cracking deadpan lines from Drax, such as, 'look after Mr Bond. See that some harm comes to him'

Octopussy isn't too bad, despite Roger being (again) too old looking, and some misjudged "comedy" moments, most of them during the India segment.
I never really understood the plot of Octopussy either, the bit about how the fake jewellery fit into everything. I'll have to go and read the summary again on Wikipedia or something.
The single good thing about that entire film is the opening credits torture montage and that's unwatchable if you have the sound on due to Madonna's ear-bleedingly awful Bond music.

I've read the plot summary more than once and still find it confusing!
Probably all of the Roger Moore ones are the worst, with the exception of For Your Eyes Only and the Spy Who Loved Me, neither of which I feel qualified to comment on not having watched more than about 30 minutes of each. Octupussy is the absolute nadir of Bond.
OHMSS is brilliant IMO. George Lazenby may be the weak link but it has, by far, the best Bond girl (Diana Rigg), the best title music and best action scenes.
My top five are:
Skyfall
OHMMSS
You Only Live Twice - for sentimental reasons more than anything
Casino Royale
Goldfinger

Supports my view of the worst two Bond films (Octopussy & View to a Kill) though I don't know why they have included the original Casino Royale which is a spoof.

Moonraker is my fave! Cheesy, ridiculous over the top plot, all powerful nasty baddy and lots of space action! Nice girls too!! What more could you ask for?
The worst are the Craig movies. Hate the Bourne style Bond.
Comments
Not really a fan of the Brosnan era at all, relatively speaking, seen the Connery/Moore ones about 20 times each but Brosnan era only once or twice.
Craig movies only seen 1-3 times each, but more recent in the memory. Casino Royale is awesome.

I really like A View to a Kill, mainly because its 'my' Bond.
Its the first one I saw at the cinema so holds a special place.

Slows the film to a standstill.
edit - Dalton was probably the best Bond so far.

....
btw - just imagine certain DS members meeting Daniel Craig:
DS: "Hey, Dan. Really hated Quantum of Solace. So boring, not really a Bond film at all.." etc
Craig: "Are you calling me a poof?"
Hilarity ensues.
I kind of agree. I was waiting to see if anyone else said Skyfall. The script just seemed a bit off towards the end.
I think the modern Casino Royale is one of my favourites.

I know Bond is far fetched, but the gadgets have to have an element of believability about them.
DAD's gadgets were OTT & utterly ridiculous & as others have said; the CGI was poor.
