Words we've heard all throughout this year's contest. Which one is the most eye-rolling for you and why?

Ballad, some songs are being labelled as ballads when they are not

Seconded with the ballad, there's power ballads, rock ballads, mid-tempo ballads (which was the most eye rolling one for me!) and gentle ballads

Surely there's a better term for them?

"Credible" is another one that makes me want to punch something

None of those type of words make me eyeroll as such, but I suppose they do cover a lot of ground so everyone's interpretation of them is different - take contemporary as an example. What does that even mean? To someone it could be something like the Swedish entry, chart-style music, to someone else it could be the UK entry because, as I keep being told, electro-swing is very 'in' right now.

I think a lot of the frustration comes from that really - such wide definitions for those type of words.

"credible" can eat my shorts. It's a song contest with nothing more at price than the honour of hosting the next one, countries can choose whatever the heck they want.

As a pop/dance fan, terms like 'generic' and 'disposable pop' usually uttered by the music snobs, grinds my gears. I want my music to be fun and upbeat, not hard work and trying to challenge me.

Credible, contemporary, modern. Find people use these words when things aren't credible, contemporary or modern. ;)

It's not easy to write a really good uptempo that stands out from the crowd for me. That said, I'm not that fussy, I like most things with a pulse :D

Someone on another forum did say pop music was getting pretentious. Perhaps Eurovision is becoming more so :o

Me, too. Same for "contemporary"; that one seems to be used for "something you can hear on the radio", as if that was any kind of proof of quality...

Hmm, I often use the word "generic" to mean just "mediocre", "middle of the road", like the Swedish entry for example... And I don't consider myself a music snob, I just don't like most disposable pop (like you don't like metal) :p
