Freeserve/Orange email woes!

My ex-Freeserve (now Orange/EE) email address (ending .fsnet.co.uk) has worked fine for about 15 years - until yesterday when it died!
Looking on the web VERY many people have been affected by this problem in the last week (and it includes orange/wanadoo addresses as well).
An EE support person has tried (and failed!) the "easy way" to restore my address. He has, allegedly, escalated the problem.
Just to warn other people that this may happen to them as well!

Well worth my time holding for over an hour on their 0800 number listening to not just dreadful musac but horribly distorted as well - interlaced by "please hold" messages!
I had already phoned earlier in the day and got through after again a very long wait only to be told their systems were down and to phone back after 5 hours. I did suggest that as a paying customer they could take my number and call me back when they were ready only to be told it was a paperless office and they didn't have a pen and paper with which to do that.
Finally around 9pm spoke to nice Indian man, had to get him repeating himself as it was hard to understand and my phonexwass crackling so bad I could hardly hear which was the reason for phoning in the first place. He did phone me back on my mobile which I wasn't willing vto use for the initial call due to high cost as that is not EE just cheapie pay as you go.
Have an engineer coming later today sonhopecits not my part of the line causing the problem as I will have to pay.
My orange/wanadoo e mail although slow still works at present.
