Definitive advice for intereference on Channel 5 analog

Hi
I wonder if someone could give me some definitive advice on the above problem. I have had the above problem since I bought the Humax i.e. if I tune into Channel 5 on my TV (Loewe Mimo 32) using analog output there is interference on the picture. The Humax defaults to UHF tuning on channel 36, which some people say is the most likely cause of the problem because this is next to channel 35 (which Channel 5 broadcasts on) . Some people say set the Humax to tune using UHF channel 69, others a number in the low 20's and some say use a free channel 4 or 5 channels away from a used channel (which apparently depends on the transmitter in your area).
Can anyone give me a definitive UHF Channel number to use?
How can I find out which Channels are in use by the transmitter in my area (Ridge hill, Much Marcle, Herefordshire), if I go for the 4 to 5 channels away from a used channel option?
Is using a channel other than 36 likely to cause problems and/or loss of quality in other Digital or analog channels?
If I change the Channel on the Humax would I have to re-tune my TV?
My set up has no VCR or DVD players in line the outputs from the Humax go straight to the TV.
If anyone can answer some or all of these questions it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi,,
You can find out about channel numbers http://www.dtg.org.uk/retailer/tx_m.html
-choose your area on the right.
I have the same problem and you will find that even if you change the output from the Humax, this will only help while Humax is switched on.There is a known bug in the Humax at the moment which, when it is put into standby, emits a stray signal on ch 36,which in my case, and your, causes interference on channel 5.
Humax are aware of this and have said they will include a fix in a future update.
I dont watch analogue at all in the lounge where the Humax is,but on my other tvs fed from the Humax,I have to leave the Humax on if i want to watch channel 5!
Regards
Steve
- BBC 1 - 22
- BBC 2 - 28
- ITV - 25
- Channel 4 - 32
- Five - 35
Looking at the above I would set the PVR-9200T to useanything above 40. Your TV will need to be tuned to whatever frequency that you choose.
Just a quick question on this. When you select an alternative UHF number away from 36, like say 50 nd then switch your machine to standby; when you switch it back on does the machine keep 50 in the setting or does it revert back to 36? Is this the case with standby and then power off / on from the back?
Cheers,
Marc
My UHF is set to 69.
Switch to standby and then back on it remains at 69.
Power on/off at the back,it also remains at 69.
Other tvs are fed from my Humax. When the Humax is on,all are fine. When it is in standby, the "stray signal" causes the channel 5 interference.
Hope that makes sense?
Best regards
Steve
Thanks Steve (and everyone else) for the feedback, very useful.
Can you confirm that using a non "default" channel doesn't cause other problems or loss of picture quality?
Hi,,
Have had the RF set to 69 since purchase a few months ago and it hasnt noticeably affected anything else.
Have had a play around also and moved it to different numbers with same result as above.
Each tv fed from the Humax has its own set top box so thankfully the stray signal doesnt affect the digital viewing only the analogue channel 5 which isnt really needed when each tv has its own box.
If there is any more info I can provide, let me know.

Steve
Steve thanks for that. I'll keep tabs on it and let you know how things prgress on that if I see anything software wise.

When analogue gets switched off it isnt going to matter which UHF your on.
You have a twin tuner so why the need to view channel 5 in analogue?
Channel 5 is always going to be the channel most likely to suufer problems its the weakest signal. If as is claimed the Humax is puuting out an interferring signal then provided its a fairly narrow band signal and the frequence is known you could try a notch filter.
Hi
It doesn't happen very often but sometimes depending on what I am recording I can get a "Viewing restricted by recording message" in which instance I would switch to analog. If you refer to other replies some users also use the analog output to feed other TV's they have around the house.
Well all I can add to that is, make the most of it while you can.
I cannot recieve channel 5 on analogue as I live on the south east coast. Never got to see channel 5 until digital tv came along...
