Some changes/additions to the networking for Bauer's Place stations in Northern England and Scotland at the weekend including the addition of Paddy McGuinness on Sunday mornings and the Boogie and Dingo Saturday morning show expanding to Northern England:

Has Paddy McGuinness done radio presenting before? I've always thought he would sound good on the radio so be interested to see how that sounds.

Of all the Scottish shows that Bauer had to choose from to network to the north of England, they chose Boogie and Dingo. I stopped listening to B&D some months ago as it is little more than three hours of juvenile crap. I feel sorry for all the stations who'll be taking it from October 11th!
Surely now the networking of all stations outside of breakfast is not far away.
But Radio Borders is supposed to be local 6am to 7pm.
Post September, could Scottish Radio services need to increase output from with in Scotland? Or if it is a no vote, no change.
If there is a Yes vote independence I think it would mean OFCOM would have to be replaced with a local quango (as OFCOM is a UK quango)
Would be sad for me to see even more destruction of Radio City. Just as it hits 40 years it seems Bauer is destroying bit by bit the first station I really listened to.
TFM was meant to be local between these times too, and we all know what happened there!
In any case Radio Borders have been taking Old Skool & Anthems (another pointless piece of networked crap) for several months in the Monday-Friday 2-3pm slot, which now leaves their local hours during the week as 6am-2pm and 3-7pm. All it will take is a format request change to Ofcom to network daytimes outside of breakfast.
I think Borders/Forth could merge 100% and all output from Edinburgh as they are in the same OFCOM area. Happened here in the East Mids with the Derby and Leicester stations just closed and merged into Nottingham.
It would go through on the nod but wouldn't go down well.
Just like Bauer's love affair with Matt Berry on Absolute... No Likey.
They seem obsessed with putting comedians on the radio as fast as they can across all brands. I personally find McGuiness another one-trick pony. I hope he falls flat and quickly.
Are Bauer about to overtake Global as the most unlikeable group in the UK? I feel Bauer make some bizarre decisions and wonder what they are really up to in long term.
Of course had the UK a proper regulator, not the pathetic OFCOM, situations like this would not happen and I am sure licences would have been revoked. You can bet in Germany (which in certain states has a very boring radio scene) this wouldn't have been allowed to happen.
I just wish the whole lot of Global & Bauer stations would collapse and we start again
I can't speak for Radio Borders but when I was in holiday last month in the Highlands I noticed MFR don't take all of the networking. They have local saturday and sunday breakfast, local evening show and they do not take the 2 to 3 pm show.
They have avoided a lot of the networking, although MFR does take Boogie and Dingo and Galloway Sunday.
I'll be surprised if that continues. It seems that MFR is axing all the specialist presenters from Its AM services with immediate effect.
The use of Matt Berry on Absolute pre-dated Absolute's ownership. If anything it seems to be less now than previously.
I don't think they are that obsessed. Absolute has been putting comedians on for a few years, again pre-dating Bauer. The only comedians I'm aware of Bauer putting on other brand is Al Murray on Planet Rock and Neil Fitzmaurice a few years ago on Radio City (although City of course has brought in the odd comedian before that).
It's not so much as not being able to afford it, it's about being more profitable. Many of the Bauer Place stations are big enough to support 24/7/365 local live programming, but if the parent company is allowed to take cost-cutting measures to make more money, why wouldn't they?
Bauer Place stations are like 2p pushers at the side of Global's roulette wheels. I bet they have a right laugh at Leicester Square.
Whats the score with MFR now? Can't see a schedule for the AM service or MFR 2 on the website but it seems the "Greatest Hits" network is broadcast now?
Certainly all the local radio companies that have only got one station do a Saturday evening party show of some sort.
I think you have just hit the nail on the head!
Graeme Park will be doing the 6 - 10 slot on Saturday nights so that'll be Lee Butler and Dave Kelly going I presume unless their on Friday nights instead, although any further detail about Graeme Park's return to the 'Place' stations should be posted in the thread in the link: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?p=74524770&posted=1#post74524770
isnt freejack a clubbing dj ? if he is im sure he makes more money than doing a 3 hour radio show
