No 4oD

My daughter has asked me why Channel 4oD does not work on her Vista laptop, it used to apparently but not for the last month.
I have also tried it on my XP and my son's Win7.
I have tried it in Firefox IE and Chrome.
All computers are up to date with flash.

I'm stumped, any ideas ?

Thanks REDBUS, the only thing I can think of that all the computers in the house have is the same Hosts File (mvps)
Adblock with Firefox but then IE and Chrome won't work either.

iPlayer etc work fine just 4oD.

Does it say anything or just not load?

Could be some sort of ad blocker or anti virus software blocking it?

    Thanks for the replies.

It was something in the hosts file causing the problem, I deleted the hosts file and now it works.

The problem now is to find which entry in the hosts file it is, I don't want to have no hosts file.

Edit: a search for 4oD in hosts file finds nothing.

You need to remove the following entry from your hosts file:
    127.0.0.1 realmedia.channel4.com

    It will then work.

Just checked my MVPS HOSTS. Same entry.

I wonder why they have included it?

    Oh well.

I needed to run Notepad as Administrator to get changed by the way.
Just stuck a # at beginning.

That is the daughter fixed, now my son on his new 7 laptop says ESPN video does not work, again it is the hosts file ... when deleted it works.
The culprit is supposedly Ad.doubleclick .net of which there are lots ........ tried deleting all I could see/find but can't find it.
Is there a way to find the entry without going through every single one, what would be the search criteria ?

Edit: example of one I can't watch.

I have just tried that video and it works for me. It sounds like what you have said about the hosts file.

    This was my 4oD line

    # 127.0.0.1 realmedia.channel4.com #[affects channel4 video play]

I searched espn in Notepad, got nothing.
    And 'affects'

Then 'video' turned up an espn line!

Duh. Notepad search near the bottom was the problem.

Anyway, there are lots of lines with 'espn', affect', or 'video' in them.

Try the 'seavideo' line first?, then continue with 'espn' searches.

    Trial and error I know.

    Have fun.

I also searched for espn which is when i found about 4. The one with seavideo in also jumped out at me too to try first. I dont know why you seem to be searching for doubleclick must be the main ad banner URL in the world, which is why there are 100s!

I didn't want to try taking the suspect one out myself because we dont watch espn video in our house.

    Remove the following entries:
    127.0.0.1 1c6e2.v.fwmrm.net
    127.0.0.1 2a86.v.fwmrm.net
    127.0.0.1 bea4.v.fwmrm.net
    127.0.0.1 adm.fwmrm.net
    127.0.0.1 m2.fwmrm.net

It should then work. Have a play around with these, you might not need remove all these entries.
