Not a bad patch in terms of ratings but in quality. Ive found it very tough to watch in the last couple of months and a lot of others seem to feel the same.

Ah right - I've seen a lot of criticism in the soap forum regarding EastEnders. I guess if it's going to go through a bad patch maybe autumn is a better time to do it while a bigger audience is there!

I wouldn't take any notice of criticism in the soaps forum, comments on there have no connection to ratings. If they did EastEnders would normally be on 20m and Coronation Street 1m.

Indeed, anything less than 20m will now be poor for these 3 shows

    (In a similar style to Robbie's posts! :D )

Surely the fact that the posters in the soaps forum, the same forum you say universally adores Eastenders, are criticising the quality should suggest there is something wrong.

    Thats true actually.
Whille the quality is not to the best standards in EastEnders right now i've seen worse

There is quite a lot of threads 'EastEnders is boring'
'Bryan Kirkwood Needs to sack' ect

There's also quite a few new posters starting threads too.

Last nights episode seemed like a normal episode in the middle of August not a episode just over a week before xmas

Agreed. Silly plots, odd characterisation... not liking this new producer's work at all. Maybe it'll pick up over Christmas but there doesn't seem to be a major storyline holding things together at the moment.

I see the BBC are promoting their big weekend of shows as "Winners Weekend". Good to see them making a big deal out of what will be a very good weekend of shows..

I nearly fell off my chair when I saw it!

As the credits rolled on The Apprentice and the continuity said "all part of BBC1's big weekend...", I thought surely they aren't going to air a "Big Weekend of Winners" trail as I told them to a fortnight ago?

    And lo and behold...

Well done BBC1 bosses for finally taking notice of my posts. ;)

The finals of The Apprentice and Strictly, alongside the still-important SPOTY, beats hands down ITV's "bloated weekend" even if it won't outrate it.

Is this yet another format that involves members of the public being chucked into water?

I have seen impressions from the pilot and they are not good at all. By all accounts it is a dire format that is trying to shoe horn total wipeout into a studio on the cheap.

It actually makes sense and I was wondering why they weren't making a bigger deal of all of the finals that they have this weekend.

I wonder what the decision making processes involve at the BBC meetings where entertainment acquisition/commission is concerned. I just have this image of Alan Partridge type characters pitching endless ridiculous sounding formats. I suppose Total Wipeout has been a hit, but i dont know why the Beeb just dont go the whole hog and recommission Its a Knockout rather than just skirting around the edges.

The BBC heard that ITV had signed a Bugs Bunny but the BBC budget would only stretch to a hare.

Hasn't The Biggest Loser already flopped in ITV primetime once before? With Kate Garraway.

The first series was shown at 5 pm on ITV1. Garraway was ''too busy'' to do the current one (which might turn out to be an unwise decision with the benefit of hindsight) so it went to Davina.

The Biggest Loser is well timed for the post Christmas "I'm so fat" and New Years resolution audience. However like most gym subscriptions, they will probably turn up once and never return.

Not bad for BBC 1 and 2 but ITV , 4 and 5 were quite poor but they did not have anything on.

well you know what they say, one part crime dramas where everything is done and dusted in a single episode repeat well, multiple part shows dont.

but what did the most boring Liverpool game in the history of football get?

    19:00- Five News at 7 0.2m (1.1%)
    19:30- Europa League Football 2.5m (10.4%)
A series high for The Apprentice, as expected given the pretty weak competition. Also a fantastic rating for You're Fired on BBC2. I expect the final on Sunday will rate slightly lower than last year's final to match the trend so far this series but it could make up the difference by timeshift. Despite the weak competition, though, not much of a boost for BBC1's 8-9pm hour.

ATOF slightly up from Tuesday but considering how well it's repeated in the past, still not good enough. Million Pound Drop started its new series well, pretty on par with the last series. Will be interesting to see how it holds up tonight against though competition. Good rating for the football on Five.

Daybreak back to its usual 800,000 following the X Factor boost on Monday. Very strong figures for BBC regional news at 6.30 and 1025

Fantastic for TA & You're Fired last night, benefiting from weaker ITV competition. It does boost Wednesdays a lot.

Emmerdale seems to reguarly be above the 35% share mark now and I reckon we'll be seeing more high ~9m figures for the huge fire disaster in January. A repeat of The Lakes performed well, again benefiting from weak competition. It's a slot that is crying out for a big audience though. Also I reckon ITV should leave the TOF repeats to ITV daytime/ITV3 now, because with no new episodes airing it's going to start looking very stale airing 2 nights a week in ITV primetime.

MPD performed well. I do hope it isn't overexposed though, because it performs solidly everytime and it's just what CH4 need right now-a solid 2m banker. And I've said it before, but I really don't think Hollyoaks has much of a future left on Ch4. A 5% share in the 6.30pm slot is awful and their latest attempt to boost ratings by airing a special at 10pm completely flopped. It performs really well in the young demos though, so I do wonder if E4 could afford to air it exclusively?

Ch5's 6.30-7.30pm problem seems to have spread to the 6pm slot too with H&A really struggling lately. I really don't know what Ch5 can do though, because it's the quality that's obviously the problem.

Great for the football later on, which has definitely been a good buy for Ch5.
