You could be right, maybe it's a tactic to avoid answering any of the pertinent questions raised by what Mr Fry said.

"Two in three born today likely to get cancer.

Half of those born since 1960 will develop cancer in their lifetime, new forecasts warn, as experts suggest it could reach two thirds among today's children"

Caused by an "evil, mean-minded and stupid" God, so say atheists like Stephen Fry?

No. There is something very very wrong with our lifestyles in this age, more like.

As other's have correctly pointed out, Stephen Fry didn't say that.

As for cancer and its potential increased risk, all mamals can get cancer it isn't only a human condition. I also wonder if part of the problem is because on average we are living for much longer now, making us more prone to these diseases.

Keyser, you are a believer in evolution are you not?

It's not a belief, it's the best scientific explanation we have for how life advanced.

The evidence is so overwhelming it's almost what you might call a self evident fact, just like you may say it's pretty much a self evident fact that the earth orbits the sun.

Again just shows your lack of understanding of science.

Your lack of logic is simply astounding.

How can Fry think cancer was caused by a god who he doesn't believe in.

Getting cancer although influenced by lifestyle choices can just be bad luck, either down to genetics or literally simple bad luck. There is no reason for it.

More people will get cancer as simpler deadly diseases are just easier to fix.

Yep. It's our magical ability to bleed for a week without dying that proves it :)

I am surprised you've been given an easy ride on this, what seems to be, an astoundingly stupid and disgusting comment.

Are suggesting that cancer in children, cancer in healthy and fit adults, is down to some sinful actions? can you please explain?

Why couldn't God design mammals to be like sharks, as apparently they don't get cancer.

A bit of a design flaw there, I would say.

So, if God 'designed' everything, why just sharks. (*)

(*) Limiting this to just mammals and fish. I don't know if cancer exists in other wildlife forms.

It looks as though Stephen Fry has angered some of the more religious people.

He does however have a valid point, why should human beings be grateful to a God that created a worm which burrows out of children eyes.

Satan corrupted creation. Not all of the life on this planet was created by God, some of it came after the fall from grace, when Adam and Eve introduced sin, suffering and death into this world by their disobedience to God's law.

God warns that breaking His law has disastrous consequences, not because He brings punishment upon people who disobey Him, but because His laws are for our protection against evil, corruption and suffering. The more people disobey God, the more power and control Satan has over the earth.

This article puts forward some very good points, and although I don't agree with all of them (as it's one person's interpretation, and all information presented should be checked against God's word to determine what is and is not correct), it still explains a few things quite well:

    http://reknew.org/2008/01/satan-and-the-corruption-of-nature-seven-arguments/

There's a lot more relevant information regarding the hows and whys of human suffering in The Great Controversy by E.G. White - I recommend that for anyone who's interested in hearing God's side of the argument.

    Adam and Eve never existed.

    So God isn't omnipotent?
Is God not powerful enough to stop Satan or can he not be bothered?

I thought any intelligent being of adult age would realise by now that 'god' and the whole light / dark thing is all based on the ancient worship of the sun?

Why we continue to believe that some ethereal effigy of man created the world and the universe is beyond me.

    So God isn't omnipotent?
Is God not powerful enough to stop Satan or can he not be bothered?

God gave us free will, we can choose to obey Him, or to go our own way. He won't force us to love, worship or obey Him, we have to decide for ourselves.

If we choose to go our own way, the warning is that actions have consequences. Just as the introduction of sin and death into this world came with the first act of disobedience, so does suffering and harm come into our lives if we choose to live according to our own ways rather than God's laws. He has the power to make us obey, of course He's omnipotent. But He gave us free will, to give us choice.

Why would He be happy making all people obey Him, even against their will? And why would He be happy knowing that we worship Him because we had no choice? If someone is forced to marry another person against their will, would they be happy? And would the person they marry be happy knowing that their new spouse doesn't love them, and doesn't want to be with them? Would you be happy being forced to worship God for ever, against your will? Of course not. And it wouldn't make Him happy to force you to. Hence you have the free will to choose. But the consequences of our choices are on our own heads.

God could've stopped Satan immediately, but has let him take control and do evil for millenia, precisely for the purposes of ending the great controversy. When iniquity was found in him, Satan rallied a third of God's angels against his law, and tried to denounce God as evil, though this isn't so. His intention was to destroy God, by 'proving' that His laws were unfair and couldn't be kept. In order to show both the heavens and the earth alike that Satan is the evil one and that HIs law is a safeguard against harm, God has to allow him to have control, so that the consequences of disobedience to divine law can be seen, and all can decide for themselves who to trust. It's complicated, but explained in The Great Controversy, which is why I suggest that anyone who wants to understand this, reads the book.

No, the Holy Spirit wrote it through her, just as He wrote the Scriptures through 40 others. God gave her more than 2000 visions in her lifetime and she committed them to written work.

God created satan though. And being omniscient must by definition have known satan would rebel. He would also know when creating Adam and Eve that they would be susceptible to the corruption he already knew he had allowed in satan.

This is explained in the book.

God didn't create Satan, He created Lucifer. Lucifer 'created' Satan:
