Nice story and completely true. Morrissey's dad grew up in the Crumlin area of Dublin and lived alongside his first cousin who was Irish football captain Robbie Keane's grandfather. The two of them recently found out about their family connection and have become friendly.

Both of them seem chuffed to be related to each other if truth be told :) Gives added resonance to Morrissey's 'Irish Blood, English Heart' :D

He should have named the song 'Robbie's Keen'.

    Interesting story!

Morrissey's dad was a really good amateur footballer in his youth, or so I've read in a biography. Maybe there is a footballing gene in the family :D

Yes, that would perhaps explain Robbie's prowess :)

Morrissey spoke about Robbie in glowing terms recently and explained more about their family background :

He even reckons the two of them have the same chin :D
