I'm currently reading a book set in Cornwall (Eloise by Judy Finnegan) and the way she writes about and it an describes it makes me just want to pack up all of my things and go there ASAP. It just sounds so mystical and magical.
I've been to Devon once, but never Cornwall. Its just such a long way from where I live, getting there would be such a chore. But I really want to go there now.
What is it like?

Judy Finnegan! Grrr - typical of the incoming London bastards that have pushed property prices out of the reach of Cornish people.
Oh, sorry. You were asking about Cornwall:o. I was born there and lived there for 28 years. It's lovely - wilder than Devon - and the coastline is magnificent. Avoid the tourist honeypots and seek out the more remote parts - the North coast near Zennor is a good example. Just go - you won't regret it.
Lol I can understand why this would piss people off actually. I think its a common problem in a lot of "pretty" parts of the UK.
I've heard Newquay is a bit of a shithole?
I agree with you and that book was more like a travel guide and giving 5 stars to all the local haunts
Cornwall is beautiful. My family spent 2 weeks every year for our holiday in Perranporth or Newquay .. which I have been told has changed a lot
Not as good as Devon overall, IMO. Not that I'm biased or anything like that.
Cornwall hasn't got anything to match Dartmoor and Exmoor for example and the coastal scenery of both counties is on a par. If you ever walk between Start Point and Bolt Head/Bolt Tail, between Ilfracombe and Lynton/Lynmouth, or in the Hartland Point area on the coastal path, you'll know what I mean.
Cornwall is a bit bland inland to be fair.
Whatever Cornwall has to offer, Devon can match or do better. The choice however is up to you, obviously.
Having said that, from what I've been told, you should definitely visit the Eden Project.

ETA. For more detailed information, see wiki or buy a guide book, whether it be a Rough Guide, Lonely Planet, Michelin Green Guide or DK Eyewitness.
Some recommended attractions.
St. Just in Roseland.
The River Tamar, which borders Devon and Cornwall for much of its length.
Cape Cornwall.
Mousehole.
Cadgwith.
The Lizard Peninsula.
Gribben Head.
Polperro.
The River Fal and St. Anthony Head.
Fowey.
Mevagissey.
St. Ives.
Falmouth.
Mullion Cove.
Kynance Cove.
Sennen beach.
Lands End for the sunset, or Cape Cornwall (again).
Logan Rock.
Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps.
Penhale Sands.
etc.
It certainly is now. Thirty years ago, it was a seaside resort with nice hotels and guesthouses, beautiful, unspoilt beaches, nice pubs and a large range of shops for a small town.
Now it's a stag and hen party town. Full of drunken youngsters, vertical drinking establishments, fast food joints and fake surf shops. Avoid.
Ha ha! I mostly agree with you, despite being a Cornishman.:o
Devon is far more varied in its scenery. From the dramatic sea cliffs on the north coast to the wild beauty of Dartmoor; wooded valleys and the prettiest rivers. Devon's got it all but for coastline, Cornwall is better - the evening light off Cape Cornwall is like nothing I've seen in Devon.
Edit: hah! I've just seen you edit re Cape Cornwall - great minds and all that.:D

They are both spectacular counties in terms of scenery, especially coastal. I feel privileged, having lived in Devon for 21 years and being able to explore Cornwall for 3 months.
However, I'm biased in terms of Devon, which IMO is God's chosen county.
You can't beat Dawlish Sea Wall or where Exmoor meets the coast and the ruggedness of the Hartland Point area. Plus places like Dartmouth or Salcombe.
We'll have to agree to disagree!
I know we are very passionate about 'our' respective counties, but put it this way, if I had the job opportunities and financial stability, Cornwall would be near the top of the places I'd like to live, bar Devon of course and maybe some parts of Wales and Scotland.
I was brought up here (in a pretty rough part) and decided to return forever (not to the rough part) but by the sea.
Hey dont blame Londoners We cant even afford to live in London so have had to move elsewhere as well.
I cant wait havn't been to Cornwall since I was about 12 (55 now) We are renting a luxury something or other for the week . Its going to be wonderful
Thank you very much
You only need to go once, the locals love Emmets.
Nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. Everywhere takes forever to get to as roads are crap, even the trains slow down after they cross the Tamar. As I recall the Tamar Road Bridge used to be free to get in pay to get out.
