Just to the small people to the bus, -4C and foggy. Expecting snow later.

Got my tweed cap on now. In the old days every one wore a hat to keep them warm Do you wear a hat and if so what is it?

Never. For some reason hats give me a headache.

It is odd though, the way hats for men just vanished. My father always used to wear a hat when I was a child - men just did. (I'm not talking bobble hats here, but actual hats that could be raised when you met a woman you knew).

I've got two hats - a fake fur one and a woolly one but people always seem to laugh at me when I wear a hat. I tell them I don't care because it keeps my head and ears warm but it's a bit hurtful. These are adults by the way, not children.

I have a lovely cashmere beanie that I bought in the US a couple of years ago. It was a bargain compared to European prices. I need to replace it soon and luckily am scheduled to go to the US before Christmas so will get another.

Always wear a trilby in the winter, so much less fuss than an umbrella

I've got 4 woolly hats.............I've got 2 loose ones that are comfy to wear but no good if the wind is blowing

I've got 2 tight ones which are for windy weather............they won't blow away

I used to have a proper flat cap as befits a Lancastrian but I can't find it...........I must have chucked it in a 'clear out'

This is really important! That is one of the reasons I love mine and want to buy the same make again - it fits well so won't blow off but is really soft so doesn't leave a mark on my forehead lol!

I have a hat like this, as I tend to get earache "at the drop of a hat". :D

I have a huge furry hat like something from Dr Zhivago, and then several I've knitted. The warmest is made from angora. I'm a big fan of the slouchy beanie.

Yes - when I was a small boy you weren't properly dressed if you went out bare-headed. It didn't make people gasp or anything, but you got.....well, looked at. Even at school, woe betide you if you were seen out in uniform without your cap on - it was a couple of nights' detention, at least.

Then, overnight it seems, it just stopped.

What age do you have to reach to wear a flat cap with aplomb?

    A flat cap.
Waxed one for wet weather and a tweed one for best.
I have noticed lately that they are becoming more popular (flatties that is) and not just with the old farts, but younger fashionistas too. Perhaps because they go well with the plethora of beards we see now.

Very few men can wear a flat cap and not look a bit stupid.
