The first time I used a computer was in December 1999, when an EasyEverything internet cafe was opened near Trafalgar Square, and it was free to use all night.

'95 I think I started, I have no idea what I used it for to be honest, I used chat back in those days....

I was with AOL back in those days, and I really don't miss the dial-up tones. :D

I first got the internet in 1998, and I used AOL. I think we had pay per minute before we had AOL so limited our use but then with AOL we had unlimited use. I can't for the life of me remember what I used to look at now!

only at uni - 96-99. I remember hitting reload when the page 'stalled' and Using Netscape 2, or Netscape 3 on the more up to date machines.

as for websites, mostly university stuff, though I think prob the BBC site as well. Search engine of choice at the time was Altavista or Yahoo.

1997 with AOL. Eddie Izzard does a routine about how long it took to download porn with dial-up!

Got on the interweb back in 1995 with a Compaq Presario running Win95. ISP was AOL as there was not much choice back then and it was bloody expensive as I remember! :D

Hotbot was out too. It hasn't changed.

Think around 1996 as I specifically remember getting the net when they released quake demo for download. Went with BTinternet and my dad had isdn installed at home for office work, truth is I was the only person in the house to really use it.

I can almost remember the address for the first porn site I found, it was etched into my memory so I wouldn't have to write it down anywhere.

I was online at uni and college machines from about 1994, and got my first internet at home in late 1998.

I remember the £300 pounds a quarter phone bills. I must have been mega rich in those days.

I remember the first time I used the Internet was during the World Cup in 1998; we had it at work and the first thing I did was go on the BBC website to find out the score in Scotland's match against Brazil.

We got the Internet at home at the end of that year - Freeserve. We never used it much though as it was dial-up and therefore slow and expensive.

I had AOL dial up and it came with this children's internet thing, with message boards and this thing called the Green Bear  or something.. I sent him a message and he sent me a letter in the post from America  I was so excited :D I was like... 7? at the time. There was also chatrooms like a Spongebob chatroom, which I got banned from once, and the whole internet got disconnected  all because I wouldn't stop asking who Spongebob was :(

1999 with AOL followed shortly after with Freeserve.

Brings back memories of the old dial up noise, astronomical quarterly phone bills and everyone I know complaining about never being able to get through to me on the phone as it was always engaged.

Spent most of my time on the Dotmusic Forums back then and I'm still in touch with a couple of friends I made on there.

I had Compuserve, followed by AOL, from around 1999?

Used to love the little AOL keyword things - I didn't even realise there was an internet outside of that until I'd been using it for months.

My mum used to nearly cry each time the phone bill came in though..

Back in 1996, I mate brought his 28.8k modem over to try in my Pentium 75. My first experience wasn't a web page though, but Quake deathmatch. I'll never forget the moment I first logged in. But I'll never forget the horrific monthly bills either, sometimes hitting £150

Back in 96 at uni. Don't recall much detail but I used it a lot. it was a novelty.

What I do remember is that I opened up my first email adds with Rocketmail (later taken over by hotmail I think). I also used to spend hours and hours on Yahoo Chat. It was amazing to be able to chat with people from all over the world! Also spent a lot of time reading up on TV shows as they aired in the US despite still having to wait ages for their UK airings.

At that time Google didn't exist and it was Yahoo that everybody used. Also, netmeeting was the application that allowed you to webcam with other people!

I think we got a PC and hooked it up to a prehistoric internet connection at Christmas 97. My parents got it as with me being overseas in the UK they thought the "internet" might allow for easier, more frequent and cheaper contact than 44p a minyte calls Gibraltar-Uk as they were priced back in the late 90s.

I got my own account when I started uni in 1991, before that I dialled in and used a friend's uni account. It was a rather different place in those days, but the MUGs/MUDs and BBSs were ace ;)
