Also Samuel, any comment on the BBC's shambolic coverage of France v Germany earlier?
To be honest, I didnt watch the game so I can't comment about the commentary. Surely they couldn't have been worse than Clive and Andy though?

What is wrong with Clive Tyldsley!?! He is still calling 'Hamez' Rodriguez 'James'!

They absolutely were sadly Samuel. I'd normally argue the same point but at least Clive can blame enthusiasm, Pearce is turning into a less competent version of Alan Green

Yes, miles worse. Worst commentary I've heard at this World Cup (BBC or ITV)😮. That includes the likes of Matterface and Carlisle. Even worse than the one Pearce delivered on France v Honduras. Truly dreadful.

He just acknowledged the correct pronunciation. Your post is now a total lie ;).

Well, he said that after I made my post. And as he has acknowledged the proper pronounciation, why doesn't he actually say it properly?!

Well your post was premature then. You should've waited to see if they acknowledged it or not.

To answer your second part, I don't know. Tyldesley's in the wrong and he knows it but he's being stubborn. It is poor I agree. However your post was OTT.

I know this maybe isn't the thread but I have to say Conor McNamara is a fantastic commentator on 5 live. They switched to him in the Uruguay Italy game and I thought he was so energetic and hearing him tonight v mike Ingham who did the 2 Nd parts of both halves, it was night and day

Hulk is pronounced Huwki according to wikipedia maybe its just like saying Paris and Pari.

We say things as we see them.

Slight difference as Hulk is not his real name and has a common pronunciation as in The Incredible ... (you could say the same for James though).

But it's not pronounced Hulk in Portuguese, and nobody there calls him Givanildo Vieira.

I bet ITV are glad now they have this match and not France v Germany, been a very lively start

Irrelevant. I presume he's called Hulk because of The Incredible Hulk (correct me if I'm wrong). Pronouncing it differently and the key to the nickname would be lost on the English audience.

To be fair prounouncing James in the Spanish way would be lost on most the English audience as well. Nearly every foreign name is incorrectly prounced one way or the other

I agree with you. Don't get me wrong. There are lots of inconsistencies with regards to how we pronounce foreign names. The criticism may be unfair but when a player says how he wants his name to be pronounced then I think commentators should follow their wishes.

This is something that Clive will NEVER win, even the guy himself has said how he wants it pronounced and Clive, as far as I know is the only one who refuses to listen to him.

To be honest he is embarrassing himself and by now he should respect the wishes of the player.

Does anyone know how Ian Darke is pronouncing it on ESPN?

Not a biggie, but Andy referred to David Luiz as David SILVA earlier.

Regarding Pearce Earlier, he's been worse, clearly, since his pneumonia this season. I'm surprised he's in Brazil at all to be honest.

I'm afraid I'm not buying that. Was it FIFA's fault he was ill as he really doesn't like them?

The studio is reflecting in the windows, that's not great. Then it looks like a lot of dirt maybe even graffiti has been cleaned off. Slightly odd.

It looks really poor on HD

Indeed; it just looked like the worst window cleaning job you could possibly imagine with streaks and patches all over the place.

I've been badly ill before. I can be great some days, bit often I'm well below my best. Particularly during a spell of travelling and being away from home.

I recognise this in Pearce as well, I bet you he's a long way below feeling his best.

Oh I understand that, but no need to be overly negative all the time. I understand that he may not be as sharp as usual and may not have the same passion.
