I know it doesn't guarantee summer type weather but for most it's psychologically a feel good factor to know it's June...
So who's ready to wear shorts for the next 3 months regardless? 😁😁😁😁

It's not summer till 21st June
Weather wise, it IS. And common sense. June, July and August are summer months. Mid September is not summer.
(Yes, I know that midsummers day is the traditional first day of summer)
Summer, winter, spring, it's all the same to you locked away in your poky flat.
Summer = June, July, August
Autumn = Sept, Oct, Nov
etc.
No it isn't
But for the entire northern hemisphere of the planet, Summer actually starts on the 21st, not today.
Not just the Met Office. Normal folk think the same too. It's June, it's summer. September is Autumn.
but it is the start of movies and football matches halfway through...though.
don't forget the holiday makers, and their screaming kids..great
Hmm, so you're in the middle of a snow storm in January and someone says they've got a party on 20th June. You immediately think of summer, not spring. Anyone who thinks of September being more of a summer month than June needs their head testing.
And hayfever, sweating, sleepless nights, strimmers, lawnmowers, airless rooms and all manner of flying insects invading the house.
Add neighbours shrieking and arguing at garden parties with kids screaming their lids off and it's a perfect blend.
Gteat:(
The 21st is the longest day, the days get shorter afterwards so it is the beginning of winter.:o
it's an owl that forgot to 'twit'.
Each to their own I guess but remind me not to come to yours for a BBQ if that's what you're serving!!
Not the best start.
Chargrilled wasps are tasty don't you know
The taste can leave a sting in the mouth though
Gorgeous hot weather so finally shorts, t-shirts and flip flops can be worn and give the oft-covered up skin a nice break. Lovely strong sun which leaves you with a golden tan (providing you prepare your skin correctly). Long days of sunlight meaning plenty of extra time for outdoor activities. September'd better not come round too quickly.
Three weeks to go yet as far as I (and many others) am concerned. I don't recognise today as the first day of summer, it's still spring. But this argument has been done to death on here, every three months without fail so let's just accept that there will always be a disagreement about it.
