What I don't understand about statements like this is that it's never OK to say that all teachers are illiterate; all doctors are dangerously incompetent; all accountants are on the fiddle; all priests are abusers........ what you are talking about is TABLOID journalism. 'The news' - as you put it - covers tv, radio, broadsheet, political, foreign affairs, crime coverage, court coverage, business analysis, arts reviews and much much more. Entertainment 'journalism' is but one niche of a very wide-ranging and important profession. The fact that these tabloids are among the best selling publications in Britain says a very great deal more about the buying public than it does about journalism as a profession.
