Whilst Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (who own the rights to all EON movies) also own the rights to distribute both Casino Royale (1967) and Never Say Never Again, and DanJaq LLC (not EON) is one of the copyright owners of Casino Royale, Never Say Never Again is nothing to do with either EON or Danjaq.
MGM owning the distribution rights to NSNA does not automatically mean that EON Productions (the company owned by Dana and Barbra Brocolli, and Michael Wilson) owns Never Say Never Again. EON and NSNA share the same parent distribution company, but EON don't own everything that MGM distribute.
EON only own the Bond movies made by Brocolli/Saltzman, then by Brocolli alone, and then by his wife, daughter and step-son. The fact that DanJaq (also originally owned by Brocolli and Saltzman) now owns copyright of the original Casino Royale (whatever that means!) does not change this.
In the same way that Liverpool Football Club is not owned by the Boston Red Sox (and Boston Red Sox aren't owned by LFC) - they are just two sports teams both owned by Fenway Sports Group.
Good point - but I stumbled on the article in the link I attached - and didn't know that SPECTRE and Blofeld were actually created by Kevin McClory and Jack Whittingham, then Ian Fleming used the characters in the later books and tried to freeze them out .
It's interesting that Sony were close to making a rival Bond series but exchanged the rights which was a remake of Thunderball in exchange for Spider-Man's rights which ended up being a franchise for them and ironically they managed to get involved in the Bond franchise from Casino Royale onwards so it was win-win for Sony.

Nobody seems to know where the rights will go next unless Sky are going to retain them and havent announced it. Tempted to download a few to my sky box this week before they disappear next week.

I noticed that they have shown the whole lot in exact release order over the last few days on Sky Movies Action. I downloaded ten of them yesterday. Shame they are leaving Sky. Looks like we wont see them on tv for a while.

Well Bond is now gone from Sky. It was funny this morning as the On Demand section still featured "All The Bonds" but when you selected it only Skyfall is there now with an expiry date of September 2014 so they have Skyfall for another year yet. Now all references to Bond films have been removed. So could it be that for the first time in nearly 40 years that no tv company has the rights and they will not be seen on tv for the foreseeable future. I cant believe SKy didnt renew or ITV another tv company didn't snap them up. Or maybe they need a rest from tv altogether.

I imagine they will be in the process of selling the rights to either ITV or another terrestrial which will include Skyfall. ITV alway used to renew the rights and then get the latest Bond with it.
I hope anyone BUT itv gets them. As itv are one of the worst channels for showing movies... They cut, crop and insert news in the middle of the damn thing every f**king time. They should be banned from ever bidding for movie rights.
It would be nice if the BBC bids for Bond, but I doubt it. C4 could bid for the rights... it would make a nice marathon on their Film4 channel.
Maybe with a new deal for ITV (even if ITV get them) they will finally be supplied with OAR HD copies of the films. All ITV have to do is cut the bits they deem too rude out for a daytime showing and squash the image in at the sides for when someone might be out of the 4:3 zone for those not watching in OAR. :rolleyes:
Or, hopefully, a sensible broadcaster gets them and shows the properly! Would it be so bad if the BBC got them and put them on BBC TWO in the afternoons and the later ones in the evening?
If BBC got the rights you would never see them again BBC hardly ever show movies they just like having the rights and never showing them. OK they might show them once but there will be years between showings

They might have eight channels, but two of them (News and Parliament) are obviously out of bounds and four of them (Three, Four and the two kids' channels) are only really half channels with strict remits- they can't just stick a film on the way ITV can/C5 has to because it's got bog-all programmes.
I notice Quantum Of Solace is on ITV 2 next Friday night. Looks like ITV have got their beloved James Bond films back, then-cue the annual Bond season any time soon....
