I think Tyler looks pretty much the same as a few months ago.
Still the best in the business IMHO, doing well so far in Basel.
And, if the Liverpool defence continue to leak silly goals like the one just before, then I will age pretty quickly, to look like Martin Tyler!!!
I think a lot of people look for things to say Tyler is in decline because they know he is approaching his seventies and still at the top. I find he has had weak moments in games but you are never far away from a classic Tyler commentary. Just thinking back now I can remember many classic Tyler lines.
I sound like his biggest fan when like all commentators he does irk me from time to time.
It's been superb listening to Jeff, Souness, Carragher and Neville tonight. Fantastic insight, it's good having the blend of the recently retired and Souness who has had a lot of managerial experience and was a top player of his time.
Anyway I also like the ITV logo it has grown on me, I just wished they'd not used the green colour.

Tyler may be 69, but is still the best commentator out there IMHO. I agree with you, many classic Tyler commentaries. When MT was at ITV/Granada for years, I thought his commentaries were decent enough, very professional. His commentaries moved to another level, from when he moved to Sky Sports. Tyler is also trusted to do FA Cup and England games, along with the odd Premier League match, on the World Feed, and his level of performance is still at the top for me. Just to add, I thought Alan Smith was good on co-commentary as well tonight.
Great studio line-up on Sky Sports 5 tonight. Stelling, Souness, Carragher and Neville, loads of insight, and they are all on top form as well.
They are a million miles ahead of the likes of Redknapp, Yorke and Curbishley!!!
Hopefully i can post this on here and get other people opinion on this, this is my top 10 favourite commentators:
8. Gary Taphouse, Just a great Commentator all round, Quite a regular commentator on the Champions league games for Sky and World feed for EPL, just makes you want to listen to his commentary and never comes across as boring, might not be the most charismatic commentator around (you dont have to be) but has that distinct voice that makes his commentary sound exciting...
Have to say I'm glad someone else sees how good Gary Taphouse is. Much prefer him to Gary Weaver. Smoother voice, great goal calls, and one of the more consistent comms around.
Didnt know BT European games are offtube, they dont sound like it, i can usually tell when games are done offtube cause of the sound mixes, also did not know SKY did offtube commentary for UCL Matches, i always thought they went to the actual grounds, i know Rob Palmer stays in Spain to do Commentary on Real Madrid and Barca games when they play in the Champions League for SKY cause he does commentary for SKY coverage of La Liga etc, Sky do a good job of blending in when doing offtube commentary..
Other than El Clasico, all La Liga matches are off tube.

What Bwfcol said.
OFFTUBE Games
BT - ALL European games (Only Dortmund v Bayern in Oct last year was on-site with Darke/Hargreaves)
Sky - All La Liga games (except El Clasico league games. El Clasico cup games are offtube), All non-British UCL games 'til roughly QF stage, All Eredivise, All non-British/Irish Euro 2016 qualifers.
The likes of BT you get Peter Drury, Steve Bower, Kevin Kilbane, Stewart Robson and co do a World Feed PL game at lunchtime and a European game at night! Kevin Keatings on Sky often does Championship/FA Cup world feeds then La Liga at night
I agree on that - it is amusing though as people were saying much the same thing in 2010 on here about Tyler maybe going in 2 or 3 years - yet he's still commentating.
I'd agree 70 seems the right time to me - but then again it's up to Tyler himself really and if he wants to continue and is still decent enough I'm more than happy for him to do so. I think with the commentaries he's done he's earnt the right to decide when to retire.
I agree on Hawthorne though - he's always been good but has really upped his game the last few season even further and I thought his Leicester - Man U commentary last month in particular was brilliant.
I have to disagree, Tyler should have been canned years ago, since Gray went he has been on a long decline. He's dull and biased but he slavishly keeps the SKY hyperbole going, that's probably why they stick with him.
Hawthorne is ok no more than that, better than Tyler but still slants too much towards Liverpool, Leicester v Man Utd good, Liverpool v Villa as bad as Tyler, Balotelli overdrive.
There are better commentators around with the increased competition now it is time SKY upped their commentary and punditry standard. Tyler, Redknapp and Quinn would be first for the chop.
Zenit St Petersburg v AS Monaco - Gary Weaver and Don Goodman
Same combination as the 5pm kick-off last night, and once again no studio presentation.
Nice of Sky to at least try and make it appear realistic by having Weaver and Goodman do both Russian games, to give over the impression they might actually have gone there.

I think the problem Sky have at the moment is that they don't know how many Prem games they will be covering season after next.
Also lets not forget La Liga if they lose those rights and don't get anything to replace them.
Your talking of at least 3 regulars there.
Having lost Champion's League and the potential to lose a fair amount of Prem games is it really the time a new blood would want to come in?
If they lost say 40 games who they have now could cope by easily just pushing everyone up the ladder even if Tyler or Parry were to call it a day, not a bad time really if they did.
Not sure how many are freelancers but I doubt they would want to get anyone in on an exclusive Sky contract, apart from maybe if Tyler called it a day.
3 games moved for Sky Sports coverage in the Football League Championship:-
Peterborough United v Bristol City (now Friday 28th November 7:45pm KO)
Charlton Athletic v Ipswich Town (now 12:15pm on Saturday 29th November)
Brighton & Hove Albion v Millwall (now Friday 12 December 7:45pm KO)
Sky's La Liga isn't far off sounding onsite. Tell a little KK is talking 'over' the crowd but great soundmix. BT's crowd is so tinny.
After watching that Comparison video you can defiantly tell what games are onsite and done offtube, Im watching Mainz vs Borussia Dortmund 2014 09 20 from BT Sport and you can tell the commentary is done offtube because the commentator Steve Wyeth sounds like hes talking over a sound mix that he is surrounded, does not sound authentic or at the ground and the crowd sound is tiny i had to turn the volume up, but still think BT Sport offtube commentary is better than Eurosport.. Up to this point Sky did a fantastic Job of convincing me that there commentary for la liga matches were onsite and at the grounds..
I get that people sometimes do think several commentators sound similar but the alternative is 'personality over content' and 'opinion over quality' which sounds much worse. The type of thing where you end up with some of Drury's commentaries when he was at ITV where commentary came a far second to hyperbole and pre-scripted drivel("Histon, History,Hysteria" and "Goal for All Africa" spring to mind). That's 'different' but not in a good way.
I'd rather have several good but similar commentators compared to the opposite where we'd have several commentors with 'gimmicks' to be different and giving their views all the time (which nobody is really interested in) instead of actually commentating on the match.
And the suggestion at the end of the article is sort of like adding 2+2 and getting 7. I fail to see how suddenly adding in ethnic minority and female commentators just based on that fact alone (rather than quality) would make commentary suddenly incredible again. And if there are good ones around I'm sure the broadcasters will use them.
Wonder if that means no Clive later with Matterface doing the 8.00 game.
Maybe, or maybe Matterface decided he couldn't go there and be back in time for his radio work on Saturday - which could indeed mean we hear him at Spurs. Matt is joined by Sir Les Ferdinand, Kevin Ratcliffe (a rare appearance outside BBC Wales) and Tim Sherwood.

Trust me the fact United_2014-15 that you think Rob Palmer is onsite highlights the OFFTUBE soundmix on Sky is very good, on BT it's really poor. In fact, listen to a crowdless highlights video from a BT clip last season they accidentally uploaded - Peter Drury sounds so hollow!

To add to this... Here is a comparison video of three goal calls.
Sky PL Onsite v Sky typical offtube (La Liga) v BT typical offtube
