I was very impressed with the trailer. When I heard that it would be a musical movie, I was worried that it would be overly cheesy and would focus on just promoting the big songs for money. It seems to have a very effective look though, and I really like the gritty feel of it in the trailer as well.
I'll be interested to hear the singings of the likes of Jackman and Crowe as well. They've both got big songs to do, so I want to hear if they can nail him. Especially Crowe with Stars, as it's one of my favourite songs in the whole musical.

Me too, I'll be on my edge of my seat willing that song to be a good one!
If you want to know how good Hugh Jackman is in musicals then just find a copy of Oklahoma from 1999. He plays Curly, the lead male in that and is very good. Before his film career he was better known as a stage singer in shows like Beauty and The Beast as well as Sunset Boulevard
Has anyone seen this, behind the scenes look with new clips of the film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwgQjfg0hZw&feature=player_embedded. I was looking forward to it after the trailer, but now I'm really excited. I don't I know anyone who'll want to see this as well though, but there's no way I'm not seeing it at the cinema so might have to go see it alone.
that little behind the scenes look has me in bits and all excited at the same time:D
cannot wait for this. i pedict many repeat visits to cinema from Jan 11th!
.....been in love with Les Mis since 1989 when i saw it first, my first West End Musical! So this will be added to my 10th and 25th annverary DVD so it will!!
Trailer gave me goosebumps. Not a pitch perfect version of the song but so much raw emotion in her voice. Really looking forward to this.
Yes I too was close to tears just from the trailer and can't wait to see this.
Normally I would slate anything that changed a note of any original work, but maybe I'm getting old and realise that film and grand theatre are two very different things. So as long as the song is changed to fit the film and works, which from the short clip, I think it does, all should be well.
This show is so good that it transcends all and any variation. Les Mis it not the same as other musicals, it has something that stands it above everything else.

F**k me, that's good! Speechless!
I think I will have to see it at a westend cinema in 70mm and Dolby Digital as my local cinema just won't do it justice.
Just a question: Is Christmas day really the best time to release it and which cinema is actually open and showing it on Christmas day?
Christmas Day is the release date in the US, where it's actually pretty common, it's usually only one or two films, a year, that do this though. Here (nearly) everywhere is closed on Christmas Day, so we don't releases films on that day, the UK Les Mis release date is 11th January.

Ah I see! Thanks for the info?
Any rich person who fancies flying me off for Christmas in New York, please PM me now!
Really can't wait for this. Seen the stage show twice and it is stunning
Anne Hathaway, i believe she may walk away with an Oscar next year. Just a feeling i have.
I agree but I think it will depend on which category she's submits for, she's a cert for nomination either way but I think she'll have an easier time in supporting actress. There's been quite a bit of talk for Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook for Best Actress, she and Anne, if nominated in the same category, could split the vote allowing a third actress to come through and take it.
It really does look brilliant. I am really excited for this. I love the music so much (and also by the sounds of it, the movie's take/version on it is superb). Is there a soundtrack release date?
Looking forward to this as a fan of the stage musical, will be interesting how it translate but I'm confident it'll be a hit.
Cameron Mackintosh has had said that Miss Saigon may be the next musical to be adapted for film and to me, that has potential as the stage show is very cinematic and in the right hands could be great. I also would like to see Wicked as a film but that might be a few years away.

I wouldn't be suprised if the third actress is Naomi Watts in the film Diana.

Must admit that I'm not a fan of musicals, but this does look rather intriguing so I'll give it a go when released (January 2013 ?).
It's more than possible later trailers will make a better impression, of course.

So happy Sam is playing Eponine.
Hugh Jackman on Australian TV - couple more Les Mis clips.
So the US gets it on xmas day, on the above clip it seems Australia gets it on boxing day - why do we have to wait until 11th Jan?
