Eastenders characters and their children dying...

So what are the odds of your child dying before you? Pretty slim right… not if you live on Albert Square. I was thinking the other day and almost every major long term character in EE has had a child/grandchild die!

Carol lost son Billie (alcohol poisioning)

Ian’s just lost daughter Lucy (murder)

Max lost son Bradley (fell off the Vic)

Ronnie lost daughter Danielle (run over) and son James (cot death)

Dot lost grandson Ashley (motorbike crash) and son Nick (apparently…)

Patrick lost son Paul (murder)

Big Mo lost daughter Viv (cancer)

David lost daughter Karen (car crash)

Bianca’s lost her baby (had spina bifida so she had a termination)

Then if they didn’t die, almost everyone else has ‘lost’ a son or daugter…

Phil lost son Ben (to prison) and daughter Louise (with her mum)

Sonia lost daughter Rebecca (adopted previously before being reunited)

Cora lost daughter Ava (before being reunited)

Lola lost Lexie (put into care)

Jack’s lost Bella (with her mum because of his affair)

And almost all of the Carters have been estranged from family members

Not to mention all the abortions and miscarriages…

Basically if you’re in Eastenders you’re going to go through the worst pain possible that is loosing a child.

Who’s next?

Shirley dropped a nearly full bottle of vodka. I know it's not the same but she felt it just as much.

And Jack Branning lost his son James. In fact the Brannings are very unlucky indeed with 3 siblings (Carol, Max and Jack) al losing a child.

Now half brothers David and Ian follow suit.

    Unlucky or what.

Dot also lost a daughter in a way (Charlie pressured her into having an abortion) and her granddaughter (Dotty left to go and live with her mum, who Dot didn't even know was still alive.)

Kat lost Zoe and Tommy in a sense (Wasn't allowed to be Zoe's mum, then Zoe ran away twice, before moving to another country a few years later; Tommy is pretty self explanatory..)Then there's the two miscarriages.

    Ronnie also miscarried.

Jane lost the chance of having a baby thanks to Stephen, then the baby that Lucy was going to let her raise as she decided to have an abortion.

Carol aborted Dan's baby after his affair with Bianca.

Sonia once thought she was pregnant when she wasn't. I think she had a positive test but she was found not to be pregnant when she went to the doctor.

I was just thinking today of what current characters would know what Ian is going through right now and I came up with Max, Carol, Patrick, Ronnie and Dot

All very different situations, of course

I thought the losing of children was the underlining theme in Eastenders at the moment. Almost a device to connect characters

Abortion is so common these days so it must be common in the Soaps too, after all they have to be a true representation of life, or they were at one time.

Fewer than one in every one hundred people die every year and the overwhelming number would be elderly people dying of old age or illness : you'd never guess this from any of the soaps.
