Hash browns are really a pathetic British imitation of an excellent US original. The hash browns you get in that States are more like a Swiss rosti, grated potatoes formed into a kind of pancake.
Oh, I'm so glad 'Rosti' came up. This term has been butchered by English chefs ever since it became fashionable. Rosti (pronounced rershti) is made from COOKED potatoes, coarsely grated and then fried in a cake, etc.
Now, there is no reason why the average person should know this but it really irritates me when professional TV 'experts' screw this kind of thing up.
Back to topic, I should not read this thread as I permanently crave a full English breakfast - I'll happily take any of the versions put forward.
As for the FEB. Best way to cook is Gary Rhodes style.
Hot frying pan, dry fry bacon. Don't touch it 'til you need to flip it. Flip, cook and remove. Add knob of butter and cook sausage (bangers too..cocktail sozzies? PAH!:D), add knob of butter and fry mushies, repeat for fried toms and repeat for egg, round off with fried bread.
Basically his method was, fry everything in the bacon and sausage fat adding butter as and when. Only things that are very important is not to move the bacon at all until you need to flip it and don't prick the bangers so no touchy touchy!
Obviously you can only eat a FEB that's been cooked like that once a decade for health reasons but it's the best and tastiest was of doing it.

I'm quite partial to a pancake sometimes, though.
That's just a hast brown Scot style!

No idea.
And what would constitute a "half English"?
Controversial.
