Just noticed this story on the most read section of the BBC News website:

Am I the only one who is utterly flabbergasted that people like this woman still exist in 2010? :(

Hmm, I can see both sides of this story, I can see why the woman might hold this belief as it is one she had held for a long time, it would seem that it was a polite exchange where the lady in question wasn't abusive, simply stated her reasons and offered them a refund.

Also, as it's a B&B it is her private home, she does have the right to refuse anyone access for any reasons...

    It's not a police matter.

What's wrong with it? Not everyone is a 20-something metrosexual who goes with whatever new laws are in force. The owner of the house finds it distasteful in her mind and refused to allow it in her own house. I really really don't see what the problem is. There is still a generation that was brought up that way.

That she owns the house hardly excuses breaking the law does it?

May not agree with her, but it's her house and her right.

Maybe she doesn't want gay sex to take place on her sheets.

I've known straight people turned away from certain clubs before, for the sole reason they are straight.
Either we are all allowed everywhere, or individual businesses are allowed to pick, what Colour, Gender, sexual persuasion or hair colour they want in their establishment.

    It's a double edged sword.;)

As I understand it, not if she breaks a law in doing so

True. But she sounds like a homophobic old battleaxe. I'm glad she's been named and shamed.

What if was say a non white couple? (man and woman) the woman would be classed as racist. The same would apply with gay/lesbians.

What I never understand in cases like this is the presumption on the behalf of the offended that the two guests are actually going to have sex.

What law is she breaking then?

It's not a police matter, it is a civil matter if they wish to try and make a case against her.

To be honest homosexuality is becoming acceptable but there will be older people who have old views and they will not be made to change them.

As these people die out so will there opinions and beliefs but it is a waiting game I am afraid.

It suggests a slightly weird interest in what her guests might get up to in bed and that's clearly none of her business.

Well that generation should learn and accept that homophobia is not tolerated in modern society, they've had plenty of time to.

Perhaps she shouldn't be in the hospitality business if she objects so strongly.

At the end of the day, what she's done is against the law.

You see you can not force someone to change their beliefs, you can make them pretend but it is still lurking in the background and will always be there.

Surely spunkstains are spunkstains. Anyway, they might do it in the shower.

    I agree it's ludicrous.

I think this silly women must be in a state of permanent anxiety at the thought of what her guests might be getting up to when they go to bed.
