They were pitches that didn't assist seam bowlers whatsoever, who was the next best seamer. Sorry just using stats really doesn't make you clever, watch the game, he was a consistent threat on puddings of pitches, as he was in UAE.
These others you're talking about presumably total Dhoni and most Indian commentators.
You have proved my point with that statement, "They were pitches that didn't assist seam bowlers whatsoever". Which is sort of my point. In the sub-continent, they hardly ever assist swing bowling. Which is why he does not perform that well in the sub-continent.
He was better in the UAE, however those pitches were not like the Sub-continent pitches. The pitches in the UAE offered more help to seamers than the pitches in the sub-continent.
He may have done well considering it was not ideal pitch for a swinger. But if you take that into account, you then have to take into account that when he does bowl well, it is because he is bowling on swinging pitches. You can not put it down to pitches, when he bowls badly in the sub-continent, and then not put it down to him being an excellent bowler when he bowls on singing pitches.
Back to the ODI, dire bowling from us so far is turning this into a cakewalk. Too short, too wide, too far down leg side and generally what Boycs would call cafeteria bowling. It's hard to see a wicket falling as these 2 look very comfortable.
EDIT: Rahane gives his wicket away with a stupid shot, oh well hopefully we can squeeze a few quiet overs in to get that required rate back up again.

Stop it please, you're making a fool of yourself whilst making my sides split.

And you mine...If you want to see a fool, look in the mirror. He is so good in the sub-sontinent, he cant even get an IPL contract. Yeah, brilliant bowler in the sub-continent.

He's just proved he is a brilliant bowler in the sub continent and you quote IPL as the reason he isn't? What a load of old crap, you simply aren't worth debating with as you're just posting g for the fun of it. No more from me on this subject as I'm sure plenty more will be along later to ridicule your views.:D

No I'm putting it down to all seam bowlers struggling because the pitches don't suit them, and him doing better than other seamers. So no he didn't bowl badly, anyone that suggests that doesn't know anything about cricket, he was very good, in most peoples opinion other than yours. oh and I forgot to mention Sri Lanka where he was superb, even stat-wise:)
IPL contract, you're having a laugh aren't you, yeah coz that's a meritocracy if ever I saw one.

No he bloody hasnt. If an Aussie came away with same figures as Anderson, you wouldnt be talking about him in such glowing terms. You are looking at him through rose tinted glasses.

So you are saying, seamers dont bowl well in the sub-continent. But Anderson is an exception as he was brilliant. Of course since I dont agree with your opinion, I must be clue-less . Put it this way, pick a world 11 to play in the sub-continent, Anderson and Broad wont be in that team. Even if you had to pick 2 seamers.
Whilst IPL cricket is a joke, you get a contract based on how good a player you are. Not getting an IPL contract, does mean that you are not good a player (in the sub-continent), or there are better options out there. You can bet if the IPL was played in England, he would go for a lot of money, and would be very much sought after.
The batting line up is starting to look really good now, especially when you consider that Trott is being rested here. A top 5 of Cook, Bell, Trott, KP and Morgan should see England put up plenty of big scores. And there's lots in reserve as well with the likes of Buttler, Bairstow, Root etc. The bowling looks more problematic though, Bresnan seems to have lost form in ODIs and Tests and the persistence with the awful Dernbach continues to bewilder and frustrate.
Well done to England 1-0 up still not sure about our bowling attack but great start to the series away from home.
Despite Dernbachs best efforts we somehow managed to win. India will not be pleased to lose against that bowling attack, I suspect our batsmen will have to score 300+ throughout the series to give the bowlers something to defend. Either way on the back of the Pakistan series not a good start for India.
Great game , and win for England. I hope that Samit Patel gets a bit more respect from England fans after his crucial innings
A fantastic innings, I still think I'd give MoM to Tredwell though for his four wickets and an economy rate of 4.4 in the context of two 300+ scores is exceptional.

To be fair, he hasnt always taken the opportunities presented to him. Hopefully he will carry on this good form for the rest of series.
Well done England, even without the great Anderson and Broad they still managed to win. No doubt some would say if those two were playing, the game would have been over inside 30 overs. Not a good start to the series by India.

Not sure bringing Trott back is a good idea. If KP and Bell do well in their positions, I wouldnt bring Trott back. With Trott in the team England will always struggle to get big totals 325+. Whilst he has a great average, he plays to slow for modern OD standards. If he was playing today, I doubt England would have got 320 odd (unless he was out quickly).
Tredwell was really good, feel him and Swann should play in the subcontinent in ODIs. Both can bat a bit too.
so, Anderson, Finn, Broad, the spinners, and in other conditions drop Tredwell for random seamer.
Patel has done alright in one-dayers recently, has a good strike-rate at the end.
I wouldn't play 2 off spinners together unless conditions really warranted it. It's a pity Monty didn't develop his fielding and batting skills enough to be selected. Broad is the one I'd seriously think about dropping of the seamers but nobody is really saying pick me ahead of him.

I accept that , but he hasn't been given the best chances by the selectors. Batting at 7 in Tests and even down to come in at No. 7 today. I doubt whether he will be picked for the Test team again, at least not in the immediate future, but he certainly has a future in the limited overs stuff. He is by no means a poor fielder either , as some have accused him of being ( he can throw with either hand , not many can do that )

Broad still has a decent one-day record, takes wickets, and as you say no other options.
Monty has improved as a bowler since he's practically given up playing limited overs, even for his county. He often bowls it too flat, and playing limited overs doesn't help him. I think Swann spins the ball a lot and Tredders just tries to beat people with flight. They could work together.

I agree. A top three of Cook, Bell and Trott has too many dot balls and not enough hitting power. Might work when things are in favour of the bowlers, but not in today's conditions.
Just shows the strength of our batting options is if we can realistically talk about dropping someone who's got as many runs as Trott in the last couple of years.

It was a fantastic knock but he needs to do that more often before he deserves a place in the team IMHO.
